I didn't see this (but there are only about 397,591,864 pages on here that I haven't read)...

Hawks GM Knight to step down in July
Associated Press
http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080507/SPORTS04/80507027/1088
Atlanta Hawks general manager Billy Knight is stepping down.

The announcement comes after the Hawks ended a nine-year playoff drought and forced the Boston Celtics to a Game 7 in a first round playoff series that ended Sunday.

Knight, a former Indiana Pacer, said today he is resigning from the Hawks organization effective July 1.

The 55-year-old Knight spent six years with the organization. His best season came this year, as the Hawks had a 37-45 regular season record and broke a nine-year playoff drought.

Knight says in a statement he’s “leaving the organization in much better shape than it was in when I took over.”

------------

Please, please, please let Billy come home and take over this ugly mess. I'd watch NBA basketball/ the Pacers again if that happened. I promise.

The article says he had only been with the Hawks for six years?

Boy, it seems like he was there a lot longer than that.

(Of course, with their record, I'm sure it felt like longer than that to him, too.)

God no Billy Knight please. Some of his moves were decent/no brainers, but not taking a PG, and taking all forwards in the draft is a stupid thing to do.

Imagine that team with Chris Paul or Deron Williams at the point rather than having Marvin Williams.

I can't blame him for stepping down - putting up with that ownership group must have been the worst

Well, they are keeping me busy at times, that's for sure.

But it worked well for his mentor - build a team of Fs and SGs like Reggie, Chuck, Detlef-Derrick, Rik, etc. and then trade for a veteran PG like Jackson.

There are worse strategies than "stockpile young forwards and figure out which ones to keep and trade the others while they still have 'potential'". The Hawks are certainly not in a salary-cap mess. They will continue to improve after BK is gone because of both the moves he made and the flexibility they have.

Would he, could he? Do you feel?
Should he? Could he trade O'Neal?
From the grapevine, what's the word?
Could he work with Larry Bird?

He made the single biggest bone headed move in taking Marvin Williams over Paul and Deron Williams.

Regardless of the salary situation, considering they're still on their rookie contracts. Yes, both will cost them more when the re-up, but my God are they worth it.

I keep on losing track....is David Morway the guy that most of you wanted as a GM if we were to "promote from within"?

Just a thought.....but isn't Billy Knight friends with Donnie Walsh?

I wonder if BK could be going to NY to work with DW in the Knicks FO.

I was thinking that too. I know it's been reported Donnie wants to hire a GM.

the peja to new orleans deal...

Which was probably the most brilliant move we've made in the last 5 years.
