Tonight is the 50th anniversary of the hawks first (and only) NBA title. Didn't know that.

Could be some good karma going their way, but could also be tempered by the fact their lone title happened in St. Louis, not Atlanta.

Boston is sending out the big guns early: Pierce, Allen and KG.

Doc expects to play the starters normal minutes for 3 quarters.

Didn't know Rondo and Josh Smith are former HS teammates...

it seems there is no pacers game thread... but a hawks thread instead.

Interesting.

Pacers appear to be locked in a tight game near the close of the 1st quarter.

Hey, it isn't my job to create the Pacers game threads around here...

i know i just found it interesting.

maybe comical at the same time.

sort of like we (including you since obviously you have some feelings for the pacers) are confident in the P's and so we are more concerned about the hawks losing than we are in the p's winning

Celtics are playing pretty hard so far. 5-point lead near the end of the 1st.

I guess this is the official Pacers Vs Bobcats / Celtics Vs Hawks game thread.

You would hope that the Pacers would be doing really good when we actually have a chance to pull within 1 game of the Hawks.....but noooooooooooo.....so far...we're trailing at home.

I'm guessing that most PD members are at Conseco watching the game up close.

Kaufman

Up by 1 after the 1st QTR.

Kaufman
04-12-2008, 07:40 PM
I wish the celtics would put some space between themselves and the hawks here in the early going. 5 pts isn't really cutting it for me

Kstat
04-12-2008, 07:41 PM
:celtics: 30 :hawks: 22 after 1 quarter.

Hawks announcers are yuking it up, assuming the celtics ill pull their best guys eventually and the hawks will come back. I'm not so sure.

Kaufman

uh oh travis is in the game to start the 2nd

Allen for 3, and the celtics have opened up a 10-point lead.
If you're the Celtics....who would you want to play in the 1st round?

A younger more athletic team that has a few players with Playoff Experience like the Hawks?

or

Whatever the Pacers are?

I would be so upset if they did that.....

Hawks are obviously younger, more athletic and have played the celtics much tougher than the pacers this season.

If I'm boston and I'm going off what I've seen, I far and away prefer Indy.

Kaufman

the pacers open the lead to 3

Kstat

this looks more of a case of Atlanta playing their best guys the entire game, moreso than boston pulling their starters.

Casell, Tony Allen and PJ Brown are in the game like they usually are, but Bibby, Johnson and Smith aren't leaving the floor.

Hawks cut right into the lead immediately. It's down to 1 point.

and isn't the coach in Mike Jordan's doghouse right now?

Hawks take their first lead, and here comes KG.

Celtics slowly building the lead back up with KG in there. It's 42-35.

Jared Dudley and Matt Carroll having their regular career nights against the Pacers.

What's up with Murphy attempting only 1 FG? He must have the "bug" that's going around.

04-12-2008, 08:06 PM
dudley is 3 points away from his career high

Kstat
04-12-2008, 08:07 PM
the Hawks TV guys continue to tempt fate, already discussing how great a series it's going to be between Atlanta and Boston....

Meanwhile, the Hawks themselves are going their level best to get the Celtics angry... lots of trash talking and hard fouls.

CableKC
04-12-2008, 08:07 PM
i think we need jo in there unfortunately
Yeah....despite having the season on the line and a good opportunity to actually gain some ground on the Hawks ( assuming that the Celtics keep up the pace ), you would think that JO'B would play JONeal a little bit more....especially if Murphy isn't at 100%.

But I am guessing that JO'B is going to follow our crack medical staff advice to only play him 20 minutes. JONeal has played 9 minutes already in the 1st half. With JO'Bs amazing in-game decision making skills....I can see JO'B putting in JONeal after we are 15 points down against the Bobcats with 5 minutes left in the game and half the frontcourt is collapsing on the floor from whatever "sickness" is going around :banghead:

Kaufman
04-12-2008, 08:09 PM
there was some talk that they were going to loosen the reigns up to 30 mins

Kstat
04-12-2008, 08:10 PM
yep. Atlanta definitely has Boston's attention now. They picked up their intensity on both ends of the floor.

3 consecutive offensive rebounds ends in a ray allen 3.

51-40.

LETS GO CELTICS!

Kstat

halftime in Atlanta:

:celtics: 55 :hawks: 44

Just not a good idea at all for the hawks to get the celtics riled up.

CableKC
04-12-2008, 08:41 PM
Something is up with Murphy.....2 FGA the entire game and JONeal STILL HAS played ONLY 9 minutes.

FRAK.....what the heck is up with JO'B?

Geez......

Kstat
04-12-2008, 08:46 PM
Atlanta comes out strong to start the 3rd. Pierce looks out of it completely.

Josh Smith is taking over.

17-6 Hawks run, game is tied at 61.

Kstat

Al Horford killing the celtics on the glass right now. 71-67.

They've blitzed the celtics 27-12 in the 3rd.

Kstat
04-12-2008, 09:00 PM
just like that, the celtics score 5 quick ones and it's tied again at 72.

KG fires over Horford to make it a 7-0 run.

Kstat
04-12-2008, 09:02 PM
Horford finishes off a dominant 3rd quarter with a jumper, and the game is tied at 74 after 3 quarters.

Kstat
04-12-2008, 09:06 PM
Atlanta scores to start the 4th, and Doc calls timeout. He looks PISSED. He was not happy with the effort.

Kstat
04-12-2008, 09:11 PM
Boston's bench is in right now, but they're still playing atlanta tough.

As I say that, Bibby hits a dagger 3 off an offensive rebound.

Cassell responds with a jumper in the lane, and it's 81-78 Hawks.

Kstat
04-12-2008, 09:15 PM
Bibby with another dagger 3. Cassell fires right back. 84-80.

Kstat
04-12-2008, 09:22 PM
looks like Doc is going to leave the bench out there for the 4th quarter.

That said, this celtic team on the floor hasn't quit yet. Cassell is doing his best to keep them in the game.

Cassell ties it up with 5 minutes left.

Kstat
04-12-2008, 09:24 PM
Boston is getting fortunate. Atlanta is missing a lot of open threes in the 4th.

Game still tied at 84 with 4 minutes left.

Kstat
04-12-2008, 09:27 PM
Tony Allen scores, and Boston is back up by 2.

Kstat
04-12-2008, 09:28 PM
Davis gets inside, and all of a sudden its 88-84 boston.

Kstat
04-12-2008, 09:29 PM
JJ bowls over Allen, and the Hawks are coming a bit unglued. Boston with a 4 point lead and the ball with a few minutes left.

Kstat
04-12-2008, 09:32 PM
Boston up 7 with 2 minutes left, looks like this one is over.

Kstat
04-12-2008, 09:34 PM
Boston's bench is about to walk out of atlanta with a win. Cassell has single handily brutalized them.

97-89 with 42 seconds left.

Kstat
04-12-2008, 09:38 PM
tied heading into the 4th, Boston's 6th, 7th and 8th men tune up the Hawks' starters 25-15 in the last 12 minutes.
