This is one of those games where I wish Flip didn't show up.

I don't mind if we keep Flip as a 2nd/3rd option SG....but I do not want Flip to be a primary Ball handler on this team. 7 TO is horrendous.

Unfortunately, I wish he would have pulled him much earlier. I don't know if it's the Coaching staff that's supposed to tell him when our Players are making mistakes that should easily warrant benchtime or if JO'B is the type of Coach that let's their players try to work out of slumps.......but someone really dropped the ball there. JO'B decided to FINALLY pull Flip after his 7th TO.

Green, Carney and Williams combined for 5-37.

Philly... 1-14 from 3, and their 9-21 FT is nothing to brag about.

Prediction: If all of our opponents shoot this poorly, we can win out.

Good game by several Pacers, and besides the obvious crew, Diener picked up slack today.

this game could have easily been a blow-out if our guys were healthy and not affected by the virus. they looked tired as hell.

but that also means that if Andre Iguodala was healthy then it would have been closed. kinda contradicting. lol

LETS GO KNICKS

Regardless of what happens with the Atlanta game tonight and regardless of my own sentiments against making the playoffs, I am happy with tonight's performance.

There has been talk on this board of Danny growing into a leadership role, and nothing spells out leader more than going out and scoring 30 in a game that is absolutely necessary to win in order to keep your playoff hopes alive.

Are you listening, JO?

Moments like that are why the Knicks are the laughingstock of the league. I mean, they tell you not to do things like that in junior high.

I don't mean to rain on the parade, and this question isn't meant to incite anyone, but...do you think we can draft Augustine at the 15th spot or not? That is a legitimate question. He is at 22 on the nbadraft.net mock right now.

To be able to make the playoffs and get Augustin would be my cup of tea. I wanted Westbrook but even if we get the 12th pick I think he's out of the question.

I doubt it, but you never know.

The NBADraft.net mocks have been pretty inconsistent and unconventional this season.

Good win for the Pacers tonight. Big game is against the Wiz.

If the Pacers can win that, then they ought to be able to win out.

That would force the Hawks to have to win 2 out of their last 3. They'll probably lose to Boson and win against the Knicks, which would basically mean their big game would be vs. Orlando.

I'd say it will wake them up for a little fine tuning. I'd feel more worried if they won by 30, which might prompt them to rest some starters the next time out.

Losing to Minnesota will only make them want to take another serious run at a quality win.

The Nets are officially out of the playoff race.
You sure? I've got them still in it until one more Net loss/Pacers win. Their magic number was 3, and they dropped to one tonight.

The most games NJ can win is 35. The Hawks already have 37 wins.

This is a pretty depressing post game (considering all the Knicks updates) considering we just beat a playoff-bound team. Danny played like a man tonight; gotta get him some rest though. Like someone said, they looked tired but Philly wasn't putting much pressure on so things evened out. Individual defense is still horrible but JO's presence is keeping the team D together. That said, rotations were pathetic (once again, fatigue I guess); Young got a ton of open J's and knocked them down. Diener was solid with the eight assists and even a putback. Insane. Saw some decent ball movement on offense with guys moving around; spoiled though by the sloppiness of Flip and to a lesser extent Shawne and Mike who made a couple boneheaded plays. A decent (not great though) win against a young, flat team. There's still a chance.

You numbers need re-working.

They can still catch Indiana, but that doesn't matter because they can't catch the Hawks.

Duh. I was only thinking about them passing us.

Seems like they'd have been out before tonight, then. But whatever.

They basically lost two games on the Hawks tonight (they lost and Atlanta won). That's why there's a gap.

Coming into tonight, the Nets needed to win out and Atlanta needed to lose out for NJ to have a shot.

When Granger caught a pass off of a screen and went up strong and got called for an offensive foul I didn't even care. I could just tell he was going to take it up with some serious authority, too bad there was a Sixer in the way.

Granger's defense is the most encouraging thing to me. He is bringing it on both ends of the court right now. If whoever we take in the draft this year can pan out, then our future looks a lot better all of a sudden.

The game that it might come down to is unfortunately Miami vs Atlanta. Miami doesn't even appear to have a real NBA team right now.

Sidenote: I'd prefer 1 lotto ball for each eliminated team to get rid of tanking. Taking it even further was Van Gundy when he was at Houston... he suggested one ball, per team, period.

The Kings are beating down Portland right now. This is a potentially important game for us if we end up in the lottery. This is probably the last game the Kings have a shot at wining this season, as they finish up against the Hornets, Spurs, and Lakers. Absolutely brutal.

I didn't get to listen to the game tonight. How did JO look and play. How is his D affecting the team..

Flip was just way too flashy with the ball, I don't think a single TO he made was warranted. Still the dude has shown that he's the best with the ball offensive player they have, so you hope you can adjust this crap and improve his game.

Just like when Diener has been a bundle of crap you've been able to turn to Flip. Flip is the creator, Diener is the ball protector, so you have something different for different situations. Tonight they were getting lots of stops and really needed to protect their possessions more than create offense, so TD became the best option.

Also it wasn't just Flip. Mike had a couple of just slow, telegraphed passes. JO fell down on a play, traveled another time. TD, Danny I think, Troy I think, plenty of sloppy work with the ball.

But having said that, this was by far one of their best efforts on offense off the ball. Tons of movement even in the face of the Sixers intense defense in the third. That brought them good looks when they weren't being careless with the ball.

And the help defense in the lane was spot on. Mike and Troy both made some nice plays coming into the lane, JO of course remains a key.

Danny, what more needs to be said other than it's time to bump the "Danny - how good can he be" thread because THIS is how good he can be. He does that every night, or 2 out of 3 lets say, and he WILL make an all star team.

Granger is aging nicely. I wish we were only 1 back, and we should be only 1 back (The refs screwed the pooch against Toronto).

I think we can do our job, but can Atlanta lose 2. Will be interesting to find out.

I agree with this, and also suggest that the drawing be televised, as to help eliminate any shady doings. I don't trust Stern as far as I can throw him.

As for every lottery team having an equal shot, that's all old hat and been done before...

When we lost the draft to New York for Patrick Ewing, there was 1 envelope for every lottery team. For you conspiricy thorist out there... the drawing was even LIVE on television. Too bad that doesn't stop NBA conspiricy theorist from saying that the Knicks envelope was either fresh out of a freezer or had a bent corner to indicate that it belonged to the Knicks.

Bottom line, not weighing the lottery is a terrible idea if you are one of those bottom feeder teams that never gets the top pick.

Back to the game...
It was an interesting game at the end. One of the few, if only, games I can remember where we were actually sacrificing a good look at a shot to run time off the clock in order to secure the win.

Very good win. The 76 points we gave up was the lowest for the year. Our previous low was 85 (4X... Phil, Wash, Mia twice).

I thought it was kind of a strange game. Both teams trying to play hard so it seemed, but just an ugly game-TOs, FT and FG shooting (Philly), the whole stomach virus thing.

I loved the win and effort, but given how sloppy we were with the ball and on our defensive boards, we were lucky to win. Thanks Philly for 9-21 from the stripe and fortunate probably that Iguodala was hobbled.

Granger deserves big props. Honestly reminded me a bit of #31 the way he took over and carried us in the 2nd half, but in all facets of play to boot!

One thing this game reinforced is my belief that our most pressing need is defense from the guard spots. Ideally we land a starting PG. If not, I'd take a combo or SG with the potential to be a stellar defensive player. Those would be my top priorities anyway, followed by a good rebounding big. I think one thing this season has produced is some solid scoring options for us.

Also, of Rush, Flip, and Quis, I'm thinking bringing back 1 of the 3 would be sufficient depending on what deals/acquisitions take place. They can all contribute, but none really have a good enough all around game to be more than second-unit in the long haul, IMO. I will say I believe Quis's play has improved drastically since he's been able to move off the point and if Flip can just get the ball handling under control more consistently then I'd really like him.

The Knicks have been doing very well against some solid teams as of late since DW joined their Organization. It even looked like they would have pulled it out and close the huge lead that the Hawks had over them until the end.
