Looking at Shaq's Monthly Budget

http://www.aolcdn.com/fanhouse/matt-watson/ (http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/bloggers/matt-watson/)Posted Jan 23rd 2008 8:30AM by Matt Watson (http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/bloggers/matt-watson/)

Everybody knows that Shaquille O'Neal (http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/tag/ShaquilleONeal/) <strike>earns</strike> is paid $20 million a year by the Miami Heat. But where does all that money go? Thanks to his pending divorce, Shaq's monthly budget is now on the public record -- "Extra" has dug up the financial affidavit (http://extratv.warnerbros.com/2008/01/shaq_earns_2_million_per_month.php) of the divorce papers (which can be viewed in PDF form here (http://extratv.warnerbros.com/images/news/pdfs/shaqoneal.pdf)).

Try to wrap your head around these numbers -- on a monthly basis, Shaq spends:

$24,300 at the gas station filling up (dude, buy a Prius)
$17,220 on clothes
$6,730 on laundry and dry cleaning
$2,305 on pet care
$1,620 on music and magazines
$1,495 on cable television. You want to know my favorite? The $114,946 that's listed as "miscellaneous (personal)" -- you know, walking around money, pocket change so you're never left without something to feed the meter or, I don't know, buy a new car or two without writing a check. (And just think how much money he'll spend now that he has all this free time over the next couple of weeks (http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2008/01/22/shaq-will-take-at-least-2-weeks-off/)!) But when you're living this large, it's not all fun -- the guy also pays $75,261 in property tax alone, which I guess is what you'd expect from a 20,000 square foot mansion (http://www.forbes.com/realestate/2005/07/08/movers-realestate-gossip-cx_sc_0708movers.html) on the water.

I just don't see how that can even be right.

How can you spend $1,500 a month on cable?

Maybe he spends a lot of time watching the Spice Network. That's what, about $6.99 for 3 hours? That'll add up quick.

How many miles would you have to drive to spend that much on gas ? And where the hell would he get that time ?

Taxis that don't ever stop running wouldn't spend that in a month.

If he got 8mpg in a ferrari or something and drove 24/7 and drove 77 mph he could do it.

I just don't see how that can even be right.

How can you spend $1,500 a month on cable? Not sure about all the different cable company's, but DTV offers a package called Titanium for the super rich and celebrities. It opens up EVERY channel 24/7 like pay-per-view, the porn channels and all the pay-per-view sporting events for 7,500 a year. Could be something like that or a combo of every kind of TV offered, cable, sat and everything else at once.

Kofi

Plus these cable and satellite companies will charge something like $10 extra per each room you have it installed. Considering the size of Shaq's mansion(s?), that in itself could drive the bill way up there.

A big man like that needs a big cable service..no explanation needed, he's Shaq.

Sinful.

Right. I'm sure Shaq spends no money at all on charities or anything like. I like how this guy doesn't mention how much money Shaq spends on his Shaq-a-Clause event when he buys Xmas presents for hundreds, possibly even thousands of children.
Shaq makes a lot of money. Everyone in the NBA makes a lot of money. Its not "sinful" to spend your own money.

I'm sure Shaq's expenses were just a tad inflated to save a bit on his divorce settlement, not that it's really any of our business how he spends his money.

Looks like Shaq needs a new accountant. No way he spends $1500 on cable. I buy every single boxing, mma event, at least 10 movies a month have every channel available and it isn't anywhere near $1500. Not only that my package includes phone and Internet too and it's still no where near that price.

$1.66 million a month sure sounds nice. lol All those triple 6's jinx big Shaq daddy. Grossing 1.82 sounds even better. I do know Shaq deserves his vote this election because he's giving 495K a month in taxes WoW!

These prices have to be inflated (not taxes and income) but 24.3k on gas and 22k on maid service. I see how athletes can go broke after making some much loot in their carriers. Doesn't look like Shaq Daddy is saving too much, if not before he'll surely not be saving now because say bye bye to half. I'd retire and fight for those kids, keep my half.

Why doesn't it say how much cash Shaq has on hand and his other assets? Is that not public record?

I'm sure Shaq has cable in more than one house.

So yeah, you have to wonder how much food constitutes in Shaq's budget. That would HAVE to exceed any of the listed expenses.

Which reminds me, my brother spotted Ron with his crew at a nearby McDonald's drive thru and he overheard that the total was like 80 bucks. No joke. These NBA guys like to eat, imagine what it's like for someone like Shaq...

I'm guessing that Shaq doesn't drive a ferrari......he probably can't even fit into one.

He probably has someone from his entourage leave the Hummer running in the garage all the time.

Here's the answer:

I'm sure Shaq has cable in more than one house.

Shaq has a posse, and his peeps are eatin' and stylin' and chillin' at the crib and ridin' and hangin' at da house, and keepin' it real in every way, 24/7, y'all.

He probably doesn't even know all the people who live off his largesse. Remember a year ago, one of JO's car got stopped by police, and afterwards JO said he wasn't even aware he owned that car and didn't know the driver.

15 gallon tank in a car that gets 20 miles per gallon

$3.00 per gallon of gas. Drive 30 miles per day.

Yearly cost of gas: $1,642.

I'm guessing that these numbers are for the year and not the month. I know the gas prices are high but that's ridiculous.

And if you have 50 of those and like 20 or so posse-members driving them?

I heard about all that on Jim Rome Is Burning. Yeah, it's sad that they didn't include the money he spends on all the charity work he does though.

Shaq owns at least one Ferrari (I think maybe even two) and does drive them. Y'all need to watch the man's Cribs episode.
