If JOB insists on players commiting themselves to defense in order to start and/or get PT, why is it that Murphy plays as much as he does, including starts over Foster?

Are we trying to showcase him for a trade?

Are we trying to tank the season?

Move Daniels to starting SG and Foster to starting C. Move Mike to SF and Granger to 6th man.

O'Brien is not tanking the season, that is for sure.

I like your idea of moving Danny to 6th man, but I don't think they want to start Daniels because you never know when he has to sit out a couple of games.

I doubt we are showcasing Murphy for a trade - what good would that do. He probably has the worst contract in the NBA.

I have to use your quote against you here. Murphy more than likely is trying as hard as he can on defense and if he does that then OB will probably stick with him. Murphy is a smart player he is pretty good in the team concepts - much better than Ike or david

im sure you might not have the answer but we should have tried zone last night at Utah.. or even the game vs Lakers. box in 1 zone on kobe. coulda stop him.

now against the suns, we gotta play Man..

we did a pretty good job on them last time we played em. but Amare was beast.

You can't play zone as your primary defense in the NBA. The passers and shooters are too good. Not to mention you would get killed if the other team has a guard that can penitrate. You can mix it in as a change up, but not every trip.

Zone versus Deron Williams = death.

Not that anything else was working anyway, but zone would be worse if anything.

I don't deny that Murphy is better than Ike or David. My beef is that he's starting over Jeff. I started this post because of frustration with Murphy and feeling that Jeff should be starting.

If you look at the numbers of +/- of 82games.com, the feeling seems validated.

Also feel that Dun needs to start, but that the starting 5 needs a creator, hence Daniels.

The tanking comment was not serious... just frustration... Floating at number 9 in the EC and no optimism for either long term or short term.

i never said anything about it being primary. i was thinking of it as more to stop the momentum so it swings to us. I agree with you taht passers and shooters are way too good.

A mAtch up zone is ideal for us. but again not as primary. just for a strech maybe 2 or 3 plays in there to disrupt their offense.

I think that Murphy plays more minutes then Foster cuz I think that Foster is still recovering from whatever injury he had from before. That could explain why his minutes are limited.

I never understand where people come up with this thought.

How long has Murphy been in the league?

Can you name a GM that has NOT seen him play numerous times?

Enough said.

Uh, OK. Who is going to be the "1" that stops Bryant?

By the way, it is a "box AND 1".

You can play a "quazi zone". The three bigs play zone in a triangle (not triangle offense) and the two guards play man up. Probably wouldn't work with NBA quality shooting big men, but worked well with my Army YMCA type league team.
