Official Thread for Q1 2008 round.

EVERYONE IS INVITED TO JOIN. If you want a little motivation to get into better shape in 2008, look no further. Post your progress and tips, etc. here. It takes three things: Exercise a little more, eat a little less and periodically post your weight.

RULES OF PLAY:

Joining the pool is easy. Just post your starting weight in this thread and you are officially in.

There are two categories: "In it to win it" and "Fantasy League." Your category needs to be announced at your first weigh-in. Please no take backs later in the round.

"In it to win it" is a $10 buy-in per 3 month round, winner take all pool. "Fantasy League" is the same commitment to post but with no money involved.

You can join at any time, but the final weigh-in will be March 31. Any final weight listed after 12:00 am Indiana time on April 1 will only count as the starting weight of the following round and your last weigh in from the round prior will be used to calculate your results.

The poster who loses the highest percentage of weight is the winner. Here's the formula: Beginning weight (-) Current weight (=) Weight loss (divided by) Beginning weight (=) Percentage of body weight lost.

WHO WANTS TO PLAY?

Start- 262.5
Week 1- 254.5 Net Loss 8lbs

Good week for the loss, but this one was entirely about not eating as much as I did over christmas and being extremely physically active for work(doing inventory) and helping my brother move apartments. From one 2nd story apartment to another.

Now thats over we'll find out how things go from here......I know I have got to find a way to exercise or this all for nothing....

Did something yesterday, I need to do more of, I took my son for a walk, pulling his wagon. If I can keep finding ways to just do any type of exercise.....

FlavaDave
01-10-2008, 11:17 PM
You know, I'm glad you are doing this. As a dude, I feel ashamed if I go on a diet. "Hey man, want to order some pizza?" "Nah, I'm watching my figure." It just doesn't work.

However, if I can say "Nah, I'm in a competition. If I lose the most weight, I win like $150"......... I can make that work.

So I'm in, and I'm in it to win it. Only problem: no scale in the house right now. No sweat, I'll find something. I guess it is my loss if I keep waiting.

FlavaDave
01-11-2008, 10:26 AM

Bought a scale this morning. Stepped on it, and thought "Hey, not too shabby!" Then I read the directions about adjusting the scale to zero. Then the real truth came out.

New guy her in the PD Biggest Loser-

I am in a Veteran's Administration weight loss program since August at the Marion, IN campus. Everyone else in my cless is older WWII and Vietnam vets. I am the young kid at 36. I've done poorly this past two months because of ankle reconstructive surgery, but will be back in the flow starting Monday. Hopefully my first treadmill walk will go good and I can resume exercise.

I'll be in the fantasy league because I can't afford any extra cash out because my daughter's medication co-pays. 400$ with insurance and 1800$ a month without for one medication.

First Weight- 301.6 lbs
Current Weight- 273.8 lbs

You're down 2.9% Newman8r.

Good Job.

I didn't over eat this weekend and was actually pretty active considering the cold weather.

I have also been traveling a bit for work. But I did find one way to work off some of the travel food. For dinner the other night I walked to the resturant that was about 400 yards away up a hill instaed of driving. And then I walked around a mall for about an hour, (not really shopping, just walking to kinda walk off some of the pasta I ate), then walked back to the hotel.

I figured if nothing else I burned a few calories by walking instead of getting my lazy *** into a car and driving over which is what I normally would have done.

We also went and bought a stability ball this weekend. I'm going to start trying to do some sit-ups and such on it at night, as well as trying to sit on it when I watch TV instead of lounging in the recliner. For once, I'm really trying at this....

I cooked very healthy last night. I made stir fry with fresh veggies, Crushed garlis cloves, a little light soy sauce, and a splash of tabasco sauce. Didn't need to use oil, I used the little bit of grease that came from the lean beef that I cooked with it.

I did eat a little too much rice with it, but man was it good and not too bad for me.

For my lunch yesterday, I didn't have time int he morning to fix something, so I went to subway and had a roasted chicken breast sub with lots of veggies. And mustard, no mayo, oil, or additional salt which are things I would have usually added.

I'm beginning to make the right choices, but still slip off the wagon occassionally.

Good work on the losses this week guys.

Thanks for the support and good words, everyone. I've managed to stay motivated for almost three months. Confession time: I ate a bunch of Pizza Hut last night. Stuff Crust Pizza. I couldn't resist. However, I made a mental error. I thought today was April 1st. So I thought I was cheating by about 3 hours, but really I cheated a whole day.

Regardless, I did my final weigh-in today. I came up one pound short of my goal, but I'm still very proud.

Starting weight: 241
Final weight: 212

Net loss: 29 pounds, or 12% of my body weight.

175.4 - just over 3% loss.

Too bad I love scotch so much.

I hope to return to surfing within a month despite my back's horrible condition. That should shed the pounds fairly quickly.

I got down to 277 for a week. But at weigh in this morning I'm at 281. So that is a net loss of 16 lbs or 5.3%. I'm going to continue on weight watchers as well and continue posting here. My goal is to get down to 270, then I'll rest my goal, probably for 250. See what happens. My ultimate goal is to get down to 210 or so.

FlavaDave, 12% is incredible. Very awesome. Congrats on the win.

WOW Travmil - 5 pounds a month! That rules!

Looks like Flava may have taken this round. Of course, there's 9 hours for others to post.

Congrats all. I would post my weight but I havent stood on a scale in weeks so no dice. Not cause I dont want to but I stopped showering at the gym so i am never naked enough to get the actuall weight. At last look it was 168.5 so right around where I started.

I wanted to go to 150 but that would be very hard and require a lot of effort that I guess I can't put in. I just hate cardio oh so much. I enjoy cardio when I am getting it without realizing as in playing sports, but treadmills and elipticals are just too monotonous for me. When the summer hits I want to try to get to playing some basketball, baseball and keep the squash

Newman, what you just said is EXACTLY why I left the midwest.

I need exercise to be FUN, not WORK.

See, there's this guy:

And then there's this guy:

Oh, and the view is a lot better, too:

Now that would be a fun work out. I hate running in one place going no where. I find I just get bored and angry. So sports helps. I wish there was a west coast worth living on here in Canada that could produce activities like that

Wow, I didn't know about this...congrats to the work that everybody's done.

On June 29th of last year, I weighed 285 lbs. I don't have any pictures of my peak weight, but I started Atkins and exercise, and have had some results.

This picture was from early October, when I was around 235, I believe:

Around the new year, when you started this, I weighed about 205, and looked like this:

and today, I'm at 182...still moving towards the 170 goal, and look like this:

Yeah, crappy pictures, I know, but it is what it is...keep doin' what you're doin' guys.
