ATLANTA -- Atlanta Hawks (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=atl) forward Shelden Williams (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=4133) was carjacked at gunpoint Saturday before the Hawks' game against Charlotte, a Fulton County Police spokesman confirmed.

Douglasville City Police said two suspects were arrested late Saturday afternoon at Arbor Place Mall in Douglas County, near Atlanta. The suspects were in Williams' car and were attempting a robbery, according to an officer who answered the phone at the Douglasville Police Department.
The officer, who declined to give her name, said one suspect was taken to a hospital after suffering dog bites from the police canine unit during the arrest.
Hawks spokesman Arthur Triche says Williams provided police with his license plate number, leading to a search that led to two suspects being arrested in Williams' car at a mall in Douglas County.
"I'm just glad that he's safe," Hawks coach Mike Woodson said.
"Cars and things like that, jewelry, money, all that can be replaced."
Triche said the car was damaged when found.
Williams was in uniform for Saturday night's game against the Charlotte Bobcats (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=cha). He told Woodson and other team officials about the incident. He said the car was stolen outside a barber shop.
Williams declined comment to The Associated Press.
Fulton County Police spokesman Gary Syblis says he was awaiting a report on the incident.
Syblis said Williams, a second-year player from Duke, did not identify himself as a player for the Hawks.
Syblis says the incident occured outside a barber shop on Cascade Road.
The incident is only the latest in a series of attacks on professional athletes. Washington Redskins (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=was) star Sean Taylor (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=6764) was shot and killed at his home in what is believed to have been a botched burglary.
Earlier this month, Indiana Pacers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=ind) guard Jamaal Tinsley (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3528) and his entourage were shot at in a parking lot outside a five-star hotel in Indianapolis.

It's only a matter of time before one of these athletes retaliates and injures or kills someone.

Glad he's fine.

But you know if Tinsley is ever carjacked - the headlines would be Tinsley involved in car theft at gunpoint.

Hopefully he'll learn a life-lesson and make some changes.

It is time for Stern to step in and force all players to drive Kias.

"If carjacking is inevitable, relax and enjoy it."

Myself, I think it's just a matter of time before an athlete gets killed.

A matter of time? It's happened twice this year with NFL players. It's not really an NBA or an NFL problem, more of an athlete problem.

And if some scumbag goes after a player and ends up losing his life in the process, well kudos to the player and **** the guy that did it for putting himself in that position.

This is why some players feel apt to arm themselves.

But I'm glad Shelden is alright, and this **** is getting insane. We can't go a week without an American athlete being threatened.

Bad part of town. And nothing good happens when razors are involved.

See, this is why I don't follow the NBA anymore.

Welcome to Argentina. Or Brazil. Pretty soon dudes will also start disappearing after bad games.
