You'd think they'd have it up on the Fever website. I gues this means The Star scooped the webmaster.

The Indiana Fever didn't go far to find their next coach.
Lin Dunn, who spent the past four seasons as an assistant, will be introduced at 4:30 p.m. today as the Fever's head coach, according to a person in the WNBA office. She will replace Brian Winters, who was let go in late October.
This will be Dunn's second stint as a WNBA head coach. She was 33-63 in three seasons with Seattle.
Prior to that, she coached Purdue for nine seasons and led the Boilermakers to the 1994 Final Four.

When I told Kegboy she's been hired he said he'd never go to another game even if they won the Championship. Pretty damning commentary from someone who played in Purdue's pep band.

i'm happy for the lady, but being at a game it would probably look and sound like paula dean was running the team.

"A Lin Dunn team will never quit," he said.

Bull ****!!!

That being said, my problems with this hire have nothing to do with her coaching ability (though I don't think she's very good.) Let's just say there were reasons why she was fired, and why the documentation of her wrongful termination suit against Purdue are sealed.

My extreme distaste for Dunn aside, it doesn't speak well for a program where they let a coach go 2 months after the season ends, wait another 2 months, then promote an assistant.

I don't understand or particularly like this move.

If they were going to hire yet another former Purdue coach they should have hired Carolyn Peck...or for that matter maybe Gene Keady.

I thought everyone already knew this?

Unless what you're talking about ISN'T her boinking her players.

Does hiring the assistant coach count as a new voice? I'm thinking some one is boinking some one.

I didn't think it was that common knowledge. People in band knew because one of our Profs lived next to her.

I didn't know. Now I'm even more confused and unimpressed.

Nah - I think everyone knows. The rumors were about some of the details - who, and players leaving because she put the moves on them when they didn't want her to, or her getting PO'd when they broke it off. I heard names mentioned back then but I have no idea how true those were.

Wow...I didn't know either, but I don't follow Purdue and never have really follwed women's basketball before the ABL and shortly later the WNBA.

I could sort of understand the wanting to go in a different direction because they felt that Winters was comming up short, or even other reasons that I don't know, but when they hired Dunn, I was rather shocked and extreamly unimpressed.

It just screams cheap, local hire to me. It doesn't seem like a move you'd make after having the coach and talent to get you close, but not over the hump.

In other words, it sounds like PR/bs...

As for the extracuriculars, I'm shocked....that I didn't know since this is common knowledge.

She was boinking her players? Ugh. And we think the Pacers have image issues.

LOL at boinking also.

This sucks.

We fired what seemed to be a halfway decent coach and hired, from what I can deduce here, a borderline sex predator whose cumulative record with her last team ranged around 30 games under .500

Kinda like the WNBA's Isiah Thomas.

Yeah, it was common knowledge for me, at least. These were always great office jokes to mix in when we were ragging on Kristy Curry.

Eh, I didn't know about all that "boinking" stuff, sounds kinda creepy. :-o
I was confused about why they let go of Coach Winters, he wasn't a bad coach.

Why don't one of the 3 or 4 of you who knows the story tell everyone because if you read the other posts it isn't "common knowledge." Give us some details please!

If I knew the details I wouldn't say because the girls shouldn't have their names dragged through the mud, even over a decade later. I'm sure that's part of the reason TPTB kept it quiet. I think the most positive spin one could put on it is this: Dunn had a relationship with one of her assistant coaches (who happened to be a fairly recent former player of hers) that made some of her players uncomfortable. There's a lot more to the rumors, as you can tell from above, but from everything I know, even the most ardent Dunn supporter would have to admit that.

Strangly enough, the IU Women's coach from the same time period (who happened to be male), ended up not only hiring a former player of his at his next job, but marrying her soon thereafter. He then committed suicide a few years after that.

Go hiring right there. That means a ring for sure.
