Nets sign Gill to fill in for injured guard Armstrong

<!-- end page tools --><!-- begin story body --> <!-- template inline -->EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New Jersey Nets (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=njn) signed guard Eddie Gill (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3471) on Friday to fill in for backup point guard Darrell Armstrong (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3001), who is sidelined by a thigh injury.

A five-year veteran, Gill has averaged 3.1 points and 1.1 assists in 167 career games. While playing for the Nets in 2001, he was credited with scoring the eight-millionth point in NBA history during a game against the Boston Celtics (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=bos).

Gill averaged 4.3 points, 3.8 assists and 2.5 rebounds in four preseason games with New Jersey before being cut.

He has been playing with the Colorado 14ers of the NBA Developent League in Broomfield, Colo.

Armstrong was hurt against Boston earlier this week and is expected to be sidelined up to a month.

Hey, it's not every day that you get to sign a #1 overall pick as a backup. Kudos Nets! :happydanc

Cuz Bird doens't have the insight to sign a player on the level of Gill

J/K......you guys know more then I do...only cuz I never watched him play that much...but could Gill have fit in an offense like JO'B?

or

Would he have turned out to be another 3-pt shooting role-player like Deiner?

He doesn't have that shot, he's not physically strong by NBA standards which limits his range, and he's a weak ball handler.

Other than that, perfect. Well, if you ignore defensive limits that is.

Well, well... Actually i'm very surprised. He didn't show anything spectacular in Europe (he was an Ok player making some 7 points per game) yet he was signed by the NBA team. Cool - i'm happy for Gill and wish him luck :)

I'm amazed that so many of you are doubting the #1 overall pick in the 2007 NBDL Draft.

In defense of Eddie.... when we were at one of our most difficult times as Pacer fans it was Eddie against Orlando, played ALL 48 minutes. A game nearly won.

Best game ever (that wasn't a playoff game).

And for all of you who were "disappointed" we didn't sign Eddie again you're forgetting we're still waiting on that signing that's been rumored since July. When it happens he will raise the Pacers up from the bowels of hell and lead them to...mediocrity?
