Rodney is a young explosive swingman listed at 6'6" or 6'7" everywhere, and as detailed below, has been competing with Willie Green for the starting shooting guard job in Philly. nba.com lists him as a F.

evidence:

October 21: Philly Daily News says Carney is still competing with Willie Green for a starting position alongside Dalembert, Reggie Evans, Iguodala , and Andre Miller.

From espn, notes on October 17: Status Alert: Carney, competing for the starting shooting-guard spot has hit 12 of 30 shots from the field but is just 1 of 9 from beyond the arc in the preseason. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2995

October 10, Philly Inquirer: one of the most interesting battles is at shooting guard, where Willie Green and Rodney Carney are competing

listed as backup SG on rotoworld depth chart http://www.rotoworld.com/content/Depth_NBA.aspx?sport=NBA

listed as a guard/forward on the rotoworld player page http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?id=1262&sport=NBA

last year Rodney Carney played 15 games at SG and 49 games at SF:

yeah, the site posts the text of the post while the person making the post is still completing the poll options. It should be OK now.

Tom, nothing against you, but these are all "predictions" of where he "might" play and "could" play, seeing is believing until now he has not played there, when he does, I will vote in favour.

I voted yes for Wright and no for Carney - thought the evidence for Wright was much better at this point though if there's good evidence Carney's playing SG once the season starts I'll happily go for it. Sort of the same reason I haven't put McDyess up for a vote yet - a lot of projections he'll start at C and has been playing there in preseason but I'll wait for a few games that count to happen before I put him up.

That hoopsstats site is a great resource - I just wish I knew how much weight to give it right now.

he "might" play and "could" play...until now he has not played there...

I'm fine with your vote and I am supportive of people looking at these things with a skeptical eye, but I don't quite understand the explanation since it seems like the links provided give exactly what you say you would like to see.

The three articles I quoted say that he IS (as in right now) competing for the STARTING shooting guard position, and that he and Willie Green ARE CURRENTLY battling for the job, and that 2-man battle for the position has carried on throughout the entire preseason. Also as the last link showed, he played 15 games at SG in the last half of the season last year, all after the Iverson trade.

It seems not "might" and "could" and "has not" but rather "is" and "has been" and also "has done so in the past".

If your rationale is that preseason rotations and playing time don't really count, then I can understand completely.

I posted this earlier, but I drafted Carney last year and a vote was passed to make him a GF. He's still with the same team, same coach, same system and he's competing for the Sf and Sg spot just like last year. He played both spots last year and I think there's pretty strong evidence that hes going to do the same this year. Not to help an opponent, but this one strikes me as the biggest no-brainer vote so far. :whoknows:

more news today in the Philly paper:

Cheeks will also use the final games to determine his fifth starter, at shooting guard. He said he had yet to decide between Willie Green and Rodney Carney.

"Both have been great," Cheeks said.

Green has started all four games he has appeared in. But no matter who starts, the two could have equal playing time. Carney has averaged 24.8 minutes and Green 22.0.
