With all there PGs? It's only a matter of time before someone is unhappy with playing time or it's extension time. I guess too many PGs is better then not enough.

Jarrett Jack
Sergio Rodriguez
Steve Blake
Taurean Green
Petteri Koponen

I don't mind seeing what Jamaal can do this season under a new staff, but if we're still unhappy with him, and seeing that we have many wing/SF type players (which Portland is in need of) I'd think they would be the first team we call?

Are all of them also playing in the NBA this season or are some detached to the NBDL or playing in Europe?

Either way, that's a VERY young PG rotation ... I would always try to have a savy vet at the PG. Also a PG rotation with a lot "could be great, could fail myserably"-kind of players.

Would tinsley be filling our savvy vet role?

Odds are that Green will get cut and that Koponen stays in Europe.

The rockets are in the same rich boat:

Rafer Alston
Mike James
John Lucas III
Steve Francis
Aaron Brooks
(and sort of)
bob Sura (if healthy)
Luther Head (the dreaded combo guard that is really a short 2)

Portland already signed Koponen to a contract, so I'm pretty sure it's too late to stash him away in Europe. He's on the roster.

As for Houston, I'd be happy to take Luther off their hands. Foster for Head and Sura's exp. contract? :signit:

I can see Green and Koponen possibly being in suits or in the NBDL, but that still leaves Blake, Jack, and Rodriguez. All 3 of them already showed they can play. Taurean Green did pretty well leading Florida, so we'll see where he goes from there, and Koponen may have the biggest upside of all of them.

It's just weird b/c they already had Jack and Rodriguez.. that's a good interchangable starter and backup right there!

You then trade into the end of the 1st to get Koponen, you use a 2nd rounder on Taurean Green, and THEN you go out into Free Agency and get Blake? Something has to be up! Yeah Green and Koponen may take a year or two to develop, but once they do... then what?!

where are you getting this? i have not seen this reported anywhere else.

i think blazers will have jack and blake competing for most of the pg minutes, with rodriguez playing 2 guard more. green probably won't get many minutes unless injuries crop up. koponen afaik hasn't been signed.

the logical move for the blazers is to trade jack, imo.

rockets are trying to trade john lucas. i think they're trying to move alston too (or should, anyway). that leaves mike james, steve francis, brooks, and luther - a lot more manageable since some of those guys can play sg too.

Of all the guards in there rotation, I wouldn't trade one of our swingmen for any. Jarret Jack is the only one I would have any interest (not enough to move any of our young players, and although Dun isn't that great, he's still better then any of their guards). I actually kinda of hate Steve Blake. It was pretty much one of the dumbest deals to trade Earl for him. He's shoot first and he looks like a primentas.

Kopenen won't be on their roster this year, and Green is likely NBDL fodder.

That leaves them with a reasonable trio of Rodriguez, Jack and Blake.

I also see no record of Kopenen being on Portland's roster with a contract.

My bad. He signed for summer league, but I had thought I read he signed for the season along with the other '07 draft picks.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Portland Trail Blazers have come to terms with three players selected in last week’s NBA Draft including center Greg Oden, the No. 1 overall selection. Portland also signed second round picks Duke forward Josh McRoberts and Florida guard Taurean Green. Finnish guard Petteri Koponen has also agreed to participate as a part of the Trail Blazers' summer league team in Las Vegas.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pritchard waits it out, see how the chemistry is and all. He can always ship one to a team desperate for a PG because their injury prone starter and combo guard both got hurt again, and the ball-boy they signed from Orlando got put in the hospital by Bill Simmons.

Yeah i'm not sure I would do a one for one with any of them, but I wouldn't mind one out of Jack, Rodriguez, and Koponen along with say Rudy Fernandez

Here's how it's going to shake out:

Rudy Fernandez -- Koponen --> Europe for at least 1 more year.

Blake --> Probably starter
Jack --> secondary minutes at PG and some at SG
Rodriguez --> 8-10 mpg at PG

Green --> Did real well in summer league, the management loves him... Probably Developmental league, but insurance if anyone gets hurt.

Definitely, if a team wants a PG, the Blazers have them stockpiled. They have some young ones with lots of potential.

A very ignorant and uninformed observation. Especially the part about Blake being "shoot first". He's a capable shooter, but anything BUT "shoot first".

especially not when you're comparing him to earl.

I didn't compare him to earl? It was simply a dumb trade on their part. You could have gotten better trade value out of Earl then Steve Blake, a destined roleplayer/journey man at best. This is second stint with the Blazers and what, 12 team in the last two years?
