Celtics waive guard Allan Ray after one season

July 27, 2007

BOSTON (AP) -- The Boston Celtics waived guard Allan Ray on Friday after he averaged 6.2 points in his first NBA season.

Ray, an undrafted free agent out of Villanova, signed last July and played in 47 games for Boston, including five starts. He averaged 15.1 minutes, getting extra playing time because of injuries to guards Wally Szczerbiak and Tony Allen and swingman Paul Pierce.

He started all five games for the Celtics summer league team in Las Vegas, averaging 10 points in 22.6 minutes.

This may have been just a move to avoid confusing him with Ray Allen ?

they should have kept for the name alone.

This is the worst timing in the world.

I would rather have him instead of Travis.

Wasn't available for long:

Surprising, but he'll most likely be back in the league next year.

Maybe Boston just wanted to get rid of some of their crazy amount of youth? I don't know. Guy seems to be a solid backup.

He was solid from what I saw... I'm betting that they did do it because of the confusion factor

I hear Dee Brown might be on his way out of Utah. Just a thought, but he was the guy I was hoping we could pick up in the 2nd round last year.

I like him, and I wish we'd take a look at bringing either him or Dee Brown in.
