Apparently Don Hein is hosting Kevin Lee's Sports Talk show tonight and there is suppose to be a lot of stuff about the ABA years. For those of you who don't know who Don Hein is - he was the sports director for Channel 13 for many years and the TV voice of the Pacers early on. Jerry Baker, the former radio voice of the Pacers, is also supposed to be on the show.

ABADays-

Thanks for the heads-up on Hein hosting, etc. Listening as I type
and it's great to revisit memories from being a young kid back in
the late-60's/early-70's.

I can still vividly recall having a transistor radio in bed while
clandestinely listening to the Pacers battle Utah with Roger
and Willie Wise and Mel and Zelmo Beatty going at it tooth
and nail.

Good times !

Great isn't it! Those Utah-Indiana battles were something.

WTF? They interrupted the Big Mac interview with a station ID on the stream.

Wow - the most he ever made any one year was $275,000

A common thread among all the interviews was how much this team liked each other and how much the fans meant. There is something to be learned here.

I'm sorry I missed the broadcast with Don Hein last night. I would be
grateful if anyone had a recording of it they could share.

It wasn't until about 1972 that I started really paying close attention to
the Pacers, and trying to watch or listen to every game possible. After
having built a good crystal radio, found that out of all the distant AM
radio stations and wonderous broadcasts to tune in to, nothing compared
to the drama and excitement of listening to a Pacer game. If there was
a game on, that is where the dial was set, and the headsets would be on.
Honestly, there were so many games and it was so long ago, I don't
remember much more than just how exciting it always was.

But I do remember the Stars always being a very tough matchup...they
were always one of the better teams out west. My favorite games that
I most remember though were against the dreaded Kentucky Colonels.

Alot of magical moments to be had in those days, for sure!

You might check over at wibc.com next week under sports and then
sportstalk. They are archiving more stuff from Lee's show all the time
and I wouldn't be surprised if they have Hein's guest appearance last
night linked sometime soon also.
