Friday, June 4
Ricky Minard, SG, 6-4, Senior, Morehead State, Projected 2nd round bubble

NJ, Boston, and Chicago also have him scheduled for workouts (EDIT - and Detroit, Memphis and Houston).

From DraftCity's profile:

Strengths:
Minard is one of those small-school finds, most of whom are generally very late bloomers. In that regard, he compares favorably to another small-school star who excelled beneath the radar, Wally Szczerbiak. Most of the comparisons end there, however. Unlike Wally World, Minard's is less a shooter and more a scorer; a subtle difference, but for NBA GMs and scouts an important one. Crafty around the basket, Minard uses all the angles available to him to get his shot off. At Morehead, Minard proved himself a capable rebounder and an above-average passer, leading his team in both statistics. To top it off, he also led the Eagles in blocks, steals and minutes. A true all-around player.

Weaknesses:
As a shooting guard, while he may possess NBA-level athleticism, he does not possess NBA-level size or raw talent. The question still remains for guys like Minard: will they get any better? Hard to say. Minard is far too enamored of a streaky jump shot, a trait that might get overlooked when playing the likes of Eastern Kentucky, but most definitely will not when playing the Lakers. Minard's going to have a lot of second-guessers simply because of his level of competition in college. Thus, he'll have to prove that his game is up to snuff in Chicago and probably during the NBA summer leagues.

Best Case Scenario: Cuttino Mobley
Worst Case Scenario: Trenton Hassell

NBADraft.net has SGs Paulding, Sato, and Drejer going in the mid to late 2nd round now. No mention on this Minard fellow in their mock draft. They also have the Pacers looking at PFs in their mock.

I strongly doubt we'll be trying to fill a position... it'll be "best available" for sure.

x-specially if we believe that Freddie is our future 2

Unless some kind of blockbuster trade happens :o

We desperately need a consistant perimeter scorer/shooter, and Al want's to start somewhere. I don't think Al Harrington will be a Pacer next year, and perhaps Bender, but then again, the franchise is smart enough that they won't just throw them away either ... should be an interesting off season.

Bender will go nowhere, unless.. (T-Mac?)

all other scenarios are more then unlikely.

Al will be leaving, no doubt.

all the other speculation can wait till we're finished playing, which I hope will be 2 days before the draft :)

But a pretty sure roster as a base is:

JO
Ron
Reggie
Jeff
Tins
Bender
Fred
AJ
Brewer (re-signing)
Pollard
Cro (though his market value may have risen)
Brezec

I dount KA, JJ will be here next season, Al will be traded

Ray Allen! Ray Allen! Ray Allen!

Unless Al really shows up something, Seattle is going to want more than just Al and Cro/Pollard for Ray Allen. And Allen's not good enough that I'd be willing to give up Al and Bender for him

You disagree? I guess it all depends on how good you think Bender is going to be, but he's got that "unique player" potential that there's not much of. Bender has the potential to be a better player than Ray Allen. I'd trade 1-up in a heartbeat, but I wouldn't include Al.

That deal would depend on just how good we think Freddie is going to be. If he'll be a sufficient starter, there's no huge incentive to give up 2 very talented young'ns.

Besides, I hear from pretty reliable sources that we may be in preliminary discussions with none other than Rex Walters. He's a free agent, y'know.

I see it too. Looks kind of like him. Like it's his nephew or something.

Can't be... the ears are too small and the kid's got decent teeth!
