I love the Heat. Actually, no I don't.
Listen to their post game comments & you would think that we only won by the fact that they didn't do what they wanted. We had nothing to do with their play, according to them. Wade was certain that Ron Artest didn't affect his game.
Whatever.
I know that I am in the minority here but I just don't consider the Heat a very good basketball club. They are well coached & they have some fine talent, but in the long scheme of things the Heat shouldn't even be in the playoffs. In the 90's that would be a team that would be lucky to get 38-40 wins.
But who cares about them, with any luck at all we only will have to think about them for one more game.
Let's start.
The crowd at the fieldhouse was great before, during & even after the game. You should have heard the garage at Alabama St. after the game it sounded like 1,000 horns all going off at once.
Whenever we get a defense chant going without the music or Porter urging us to, you know the fans are into it.
We got a R-E-G-G-I-E chant going, hell we even had a Foster chant going & needless to say the fans gave hell to the worst referee in the history of organized sports, Benet Salvatore. Whenever I walk in & see him on the floor I cringe. Not because he is anti-Indiana, it's because he is anti-knowledge about the game. He is just horrid.
Let's do the players.
Jermaine O'Neal. Did anybody see the pose after he scored in the fourth quarter? The one where he flexed both of his arms to show his muscles? While it was funny & got the crowd going I am sure the whiney *******s in Miami will cry on about this. Other than that I had no real problem with the way J.O. played. I don't like the fact that some of the offense seems forced through him, but I don't blame J.O. for that. He seemed active & I like the fact that he didn't just try & go three on one. Good job by O'Neal.
Ron Artest. I'll be honest with you, I got scared early in the game. There were a couple of times in the first quarter Ron took shots that were clearly not in the scheme of the offense & I thought to myself "oh crap". I was afraid after last game that Ron was going to go on his own & in a couple of cases I think he did. But my fears were put to bed early & Ron calmed down. He once again put the vice grips on Butler & then when the time called for it he even managed to check the greatest player not named Jordan (Dwayne Wade) Sorry, but this guy is on my nerves right now. I love the way Ron has been going at the boards the last couple of games & that helps a lot.
Jeff Foster. ed:
Just kidding. Game ball of course goes to Foster. We desperately needed help from somewhere else & he more than gave it to us. Jeff played about the most complete game of basketball that we have seen all season long. He rebounded, scored & defended. While his offense is getting all of the credit (it deserves it btw) it was his defense on Lamar Odom that made a great deal of differance. This obviously was the best game of Jeff's career & it couldn't have come at a better time.
Reggie Miller. His activity on the offensive end cannot be underestimated. He will only draw teams away from the forwards if the opponets think he is going to shoot. We even got a floater from him. We MUST get the same kind of activity from Reggie in Miami.
Jamaal Tinsley. Lost in all of Jeff Fosters great play was the fact that J.Tins played a solid overall game. He rebounded, passed, scored, defended. He did a great job on defense last night. Did anybody else see the teardrop shot he hit? Did it remind anybody else, other than me, of Mark Jacksons shot?
Al Harrington. He's probably going to be blamed again for having a bad game, but I thought he battled on the boards very well. On the downside though there was a part in the 3rd quarter that he was taken out & Jermaine came back in & I'll be honest, it looked like Al was pouting about it. I might have read that wrong though? Again, he didn't dominate but I thought he played a solid game.
A.J. The local parriah. I thought he played solid last night, I've been saying that a lot haven't I? He still can't pass or run an offense but he did a great job on defense (he stopped a fast break by Odom all by himself) & his timely three pointer helped put the heat down.
Croshere. He has to be more active on the boards. He is always setting a solid pick, but at the end of the day he has got to produce & if it's not points he has got to get boards.
Bender. On the way home I heard Kevin Lee talk about why Bender hasn't been playing much this series. He said something odd. According to his sources on the team they said Jon was starting to get the "Deer in the headlight" syndrome again. I guess in practice it's been pretty bad as well. He sure doesn't seem to be the same player he was vs. Boston, does he.
Odds & ends.
D.J. Paul B used some of our ideas. Hell if I'd have known he was going to go old school rock on us I would have definately given other ideas to him. But I certainly appreciate the scorpions, Van Halen & even a little Run DMC.
I know that he is not for some of us older guys, but you can't deny the crowd reacts to him. I think he is doing the job they pay him to do & he does it very very well.
Yeah, I know a lot of you liked looking at the Heat dancers up in the clubhouse & I know some of you sitting next to them enjoyed it. But the fans directly behind them (the ones that weren't Heat fans) were haveing real problems. I saw the woman fan call the usher two differant times. Once for the guy behind her & once again for the Dancers in front of her. The fact we won & to watch them go from Dancing cheering fools to just fools was fun for us. But other than that I thought they were disruptive to that section. The fact that they were doing their dance routines in their seats was annoying after awhile. Now had we lost the game I think they would have made a lot more people mad than they did, but losing cures all wounds.
Not much to say on this one, other than more of the same in game 6.
