The FSN feed didn't add a point onto the Pacers score from the Sarunas free-throws the first time around when we had 21, he made both so it should've been 23-22 but it was still 22-22.

With 1:56 left in the quarter.

This lineup's a little better, but still not great.

Man, Sarunas gets scored on again.

Anthem
11-30-2006, 12:14 AM
Ok, Sarunas has to come out. When people say Rick should keep Sarunas on the floor more, this is what needs to get pointed to. Golden State is just flat-out taking advantage of Sarunas while he's on the floor.

Baron Davis gets Tinsley posted in isolation, and misses.

Tinsley draws the tech on Baron.

He just got 4 straight points in 30 seconds... nothing wrong with that.

Even better, both shots were within 6 inches of the rim when he let them go.

I'm all about a high percentage.

ajbry
11-30-2006, 12:34 AM
Holy cow, Tinsley is clutch.

He had a nice conclusion to the half, but shouldn't "clutch" be directed towards the 4th quarter, rather than a couple short-range shots in the 2nd quarter?

Isaac
11-30-2006, 12:35 AM
We did a nice job to stay in this one. The Warriors hit a lot of really tough shots. We have to do a better job rotating to the open shooters though.

Great finish of the half by Jamaal. I wish Marquis had made that shot after he stole the inbounds pass.

Anthem
11-30-2006, 12:35 AM
Marquis stole the inbounds and nearly hit one at the buzzer to give the lead.
Man, I wish we'd gotten that. It really would have hurt the Warriors mentally going into halftime.

Unclebuck
11-30-2006, 12:37 AM
I forgot what it's like to play a Don Nelson coached team - Pretty much a layup drill - the man cannot coach defense. If you can keep from turning the ball over against the Warriors, you'll get a good shot in the paint. They are a good offensive team though

Anthem
11-30-2006, 12:38 AM

Fair enough, allow me to rephrase.

Interesting. I am once again surprised at the degree to which Tinsley can get good shots when the team needs points and there's no time left on the clock.

:D Better?

Rarely have I seen two teams give such an awful defensive display. Tinsley has become just a statue out there. Ugh.

AesopRockOn
11-30-2006, 12:39 AM
We definitely need to clamp down on Baron and Pietrus. Also try to get JO more involved in the offense. What's with Danny's limited minutes?

We're winning turnovers and rebounds. At this point, it seems like we need to make shots and force them to take tougher ones.

Obnox is right... it's an ugly game.

Pretty much nobody really looked good out there... we're holding even despite a flawed performance from pretty much everybody. Nobody had a great, or even a good, half.

I see it everytime I watch a Don Nelson coached team - but something happens, he gets the oppoent to play horrible defense too.

Jeff had a great 1st quarter. I thought Marquis gave us some good minutes, but he missed way too many inside shots

This game is a fun one to watch. Tinsley is playing inspired ball tonight. Marquis is doing a good job. If we can shoot better than 39% in the second half we should win.

Sarunas was getting beat over the top by the 6'10" Dunlavey so Rick took him out. I thought he was playing well except for he is just too short tonight.

The Pacers are running the break great tonight.
It seems the Pacers can run with these guys and when they do the kind of put GS back on their heels. We get fouled and score from the line. It should be a good second half. Very exciting game with excellent ball movement.

Anthem
11-30-2006, 12:48 AM
Yeah, the fast break is the only thing that's kept us in the game. That and being aggressive... FTs have saved us.

I agree that Foster played well in the first, but he had a few horrid possessions in the second before getting yanked. Tinsley's played reasonably well, but still not up to my expectations for him.

Saras was getting killed by Dunleavy, which is no crime. But it wasn't on switches... Nelson put him at 2 to match up with Saras. When Dunleavy wasn't in, though, it was Pietrus doing the work. They showed a bunch of Pietrus highlights at the break, and they all came against Sarunas.

What a horrible foul called on Tinsley there. Not only did he barely touch Dunleavy, but Jermaine is getting at least that much contact and much more on the other end and he isn't getting any calls.

Was a good job to knock away the ball in the first place, though.

Wow what a big.. big win for this team.... I really like that JO got another double double and was the games leader in rebounds... strange game both tins and Davis close to triple double.. tins 2 boards 2 assists short, Davis 1 board 1 assist short.... I just can not believe that we won back to back games on a west coast road trip...... amazing... I can not remember the last time this team won both games of a back to back road set...... especially on a west coast trip.....

We can get all warm and fuzzy about the win, but this game accentuates one of the biggest weaknesses of this team.

Our backcourt, despite a very good offensive game from Tinsley and the gamewinner from Jackson, struggle bigtime to stay in front of their men. We don't have guards that are capable of playing extended minutes who are capable defenders.

Not to rain on the parade, but that fact alone will prevent this team from achieving any real success over the course of a season.

Despite the numbers, Tinsley played pretty good defense against Davis. And Jack did a good job on defense as well.

Sarunas got destroyed every time he was in. And people wonder why he doesn't play 20-30 minutes a night.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Jack is our best perimeter defender. If he were as bad as you claim, then we'd be a lottery team, not a team that just pulled out this win.

Yeah, Jack is not the problem on D. Obviously he's gonna struggle if somehow he's matched-up with the quicker Ellis or Davis but in general, he's huge. Even though Granger was on Redd for much of that Bucks game, Jack was on Redd for the last few possessions. The man is a great defender. Davis is just bigger and stronger than Tins. Can't really help that.

I thought Jackson did a decent job on Davis. Davis scored late against Tinsley due to switches on pick and rolls. Ellis was beating Armstrong tonight also - Ellis is really good

beast23, you know me, I want better perimeter defenders - but Ellis and Davis are extremely difficult to stop with the way the fouls are called now

I agree that the rules certainly don't help the perimeter defenders. However, the one thing that I see game after game is that our backcourt players cannot keep the opposing guards out of the lane.

Tonight, you are correct about the play of Davis and Ellis. Both players have an uncanny ability to use "traffic" to brush off their defenders. But that typically happened once we allowed one of them to get a step on us in or around the lane.

Jackson is able to play decent defense on the perimeter. But our real problem is that we do not have a pair of players in the backcourt able to operate in tandem to stop penetration.

Obviously, it is a lot easier for a team to defend the entry pass made from the side as opposed to defending the short pass made from a guard that has penetrated the lane. We have to force the opposing PG to make perimeter passes rather than penetrating into the lane.

Of course, tonight the penetrating guard didn't have to pass off once they penetrated the lane. They were able to take the ball straight to the hole and cause some problems for our big men.

And I think this problem will be particularly damaging for us whenever we play an opponent with a SF capable of hitting an 18-foot jumper because that's all it will take to prevent Danny from sliding in to help stop the penetration.

I would agree that we need perimeter shooters as some have said. But my first priority would be in improving team defense, either with existing players or with newly acquired ones, that are capable of stopping dribble penetration.
