Josh, and I agree it was close with him and Rawle. Both look like they can become solid players in the NBA.

I picked Al because I had no idea he could shoot the 3. Rawle was in a close second, with Powell in third.

I might be wrong but it looks like Saras is forcing his way out of Indiana. It looks like he really doesn't like playing here anymore ( I doubt he liked it last year as well)

They obviously took that to heart quickly.
All new rules or adjustments get overcalled in the preseason as the refs attempt to establish the new limits. During the season the calls always back off to a normal level.

So it's pretty much official, Cabbages would be cut if he was in Rawle's shoes, ie the low contract throw-in on the AJ for Armstrong trade. He's just playing awful, worse than last spring I think.

Mark has him getting his ankles broke by Chase, he threw up at least 3 turnovers in about 5 minutes, plus a foul and no assists. He traveled, he threw passes to the Jazz, just a mess.

I know the money and pride is invested, but it's looking like there will be no way they'll be playing SarJas once Greene returns. Dude might be in a suit by December unless something changes in a hurry.

Harrington has drawn THREE charges in the first half. Very impressive defensive effort on his part. He also has a steal which means he has personally accounted for 4 of the 5 Jazz turnovers.

Damn Sarunas is killing it out there, no points, assists, or rebounds. But those 4 turnovers and 2 fouls sure look good to me, I'm very happy that we got us a good back up for Jamaal Tinsley.

I'm now on the bandwagon with UB, Orien Green CANT be cut and he will be playing 15-20 minutes a game 2 weeks into the season.

Can we cut Runi and keep Marshall?

Saras is finished. The vultures are circling. Cutting Runi should happen, but Bird's HUGE EGO will get in the way.

Marshall is a player who is at least a good bench guy...maybe a solid rotation player...and just maybe part of the Jack replacement plan if Jack gets convicted.

Looking at the box score, the play of Al Harrington seems to be the bright spot. Listening to the game it seems he has been drawing many offensive fouls. So its not all bad in pacerland. Definitely worth giving up a first round pick...

You can't count me out either - I've been on Orien's bandwagon the longest. He's going to be quite valuable to this team.

Give up 40 in the 1st and 27 in the 2nd qtr. That's horrible, and our starters have played the majority of the game.

Not to mention Sarunas with 2PF and 4TO's in like 6 mins. I'm still a fan of his, but come on.. show some improvement!

Ha Pacers as a whole, show some improvement, the season starts next week! "it's up to us"........ Well show something!

BlueNGold
10-26-2006, 10:59 PM
Don't get me wrong. It's obviously silly to take too much from this game, but it has confirmed my inner fears of how this team might turn out...which are the following:

The emperor has no clothes. This "new style" is an experiment that will blow up in TPTB's face. How many poor shooting finesse teams have won an NBA championship? Yes, poor shooting and soft. That's really how I see this team.

Also, there are a lot of unproven rookies and Euro guys on this club...more inexperience than we have seen on this club in more than a decade. Our rookies are not blue chip lottery guys either. Utah is a well coached, physically strong and disciplined team that plays more like a Euro club...and it is ripping this "new style" to pieces. I would not be surprised to see us go 10-20 and find TPTB looking for new strategies.

It's just a preseason game...it's just a preseason game...it's just a preseason game...it's just a preseason game.

Nope. This is it.

BTW, stupid PD stopped loading just as I was putting up the first half +/- for the Pacers, with (minutes played). Again, first half only.

-16 Daniels (9)
-15 JO (16.5)
-14 Al (13)
-13 Foster (15)
-12 SarJas (6.5)

-9 Harrison (3)
-8 Marshall (3)
-8 Jackson (16.5)
-7 Tinsley (14.5)
-6 Armstrong (4.5)

-3 White (3)
-2 Granger (14)
+3 Baston (1.5)

Harrison, SarJas and Daniels, awful per minute

Granger pretty strong, Jackson and Tinsley okay all things considered.

I'm going to update with the 2nd half in a bit. BTW, I'm using the PxP so if its wrong there will be mistakes. Also I always include the FT's outstanding when a player leaves as part of his +/-, which means if it's -10 when Foster leaves but Brewer has 2 to shoot and hits 1, then Foster goes out at -11 instead.

By my understanding that's not how it's normally done. Normally it goes strictly by the score on the board when the player leaves, but that player was part of what created the FT situation which is why I do it my way.

I'm just going to zip my lip for fear of jinxing this team even further.

Wait. Sarunas had 8 TOs? Wow. How'd he do that? Heck, I'm not even mad; that's amazing.

Btw, JT had 10 and 7. He's been solid and I expect him to pick it up further once the regular season begins. He'll probably rein in his TOs as well.

Also, Rawle Marshall seems to fit in well in limited time situations as well as big minutes...like Rick was talking about.

Naptown_Seth
10-27-2006, 12:04 AM
Baston got the least time except for Edwards. Maybe they were showcasing Marshall, but I wonder if they aren't really strongly considering keeping him. He was an effective scorer (again) in the 4th quarter and his +/- as I have it was better than Daniels and SarJas in similar PT.

Final +/- by using the PxP and Excel :)

+3 Baston (1.5)
-4 Granger (24.5)
-6 White (9)
-6 Powell (7)
-6 Williams (7)

-6 Armstrong (4.5)
-8 Harrison (13)
-9 Tinsley (25)
-10 Jackson (27)
-10 Marshall (16.5)

-12 Foster (20.5)
-13 Harrington (24)
-14 JO (28)
-14 SarJas (20)
-15 Daniels (16.5)

Everyone but Edwards played (and Greene who wasn't in uniform).

2nd half didn't change much. Starters were competitive in the 3rd, the bench was only a little poor in the 4th compared to awful during the first half.

Naptown_Seth
10-27-2006, 12:09 AM
BTW, the Pacers only got 55 FGAs thanks to all the TOs.

Even worse is that they didn't create many TO's either. They lost the points off of TOs battle 38-11, which is basically the game right there. Worse yet is that while the Pacers gave up 38 on 30, they only got 11 on 15. That's less than 1 pt per TO which for a team hoping to be more uptempo is not very effective.

They didn't just fail to get the big number of TOs, they also were unable to score off them when they did.

Wait. Saras actually had 0 assists and 8 turnovers?

Are you kidding me? I can't even find the words to describe that type of performance.

Also, as dictated from the preseason, this team is only going as far as Al, Jack, and Tins are going to take it. JO hasn't been too impressive and the bench has been flat-out useless.

one way to look at it is that we went 3-5 during the year we were 61-21... not saying that its anything significant but its something to hope for i suppose

Did this pre-season show us anything we didn't already know? Jack, Tins, and JO have been solid (it's not just about the numbers). Danny and Al have been impressive. Daniels needs some time but coming off of an injury, that's ok. The biggest surprise to me is how ineffective Saras has been. I've always thought that he is a guy who could do better if given more time. I'm fairly psyched. Not too worry. We'll start off slow but by the all-star break we'll be in the mix of things, I'm sure. Keep in mind we have a difficult schedule to begin the season...

I think it's lottery protected...but I wouldn't worry about it...regardless, hasn't Al impressed you at all?

Oh my.

I watched the first quarter and thought we would actually try and make a run, but looking at the score and the boxscore tells me that I thought wrong. We got outscored in every quarter except for the third quarter (we outscored them 31-30 in the 3rd). Should I go watch the full game?

Also, I know I shouldn't be taking these games too seriously, but Runi is really starting to worry me.

Oh my.

I watched the first quarter wrong.

Were you in Salt Lake? Or it was on some kind of TV?

My bad. I'm used to saying 'watch'. I listened to it. :)
