Lawsuit dismissed in Pacers-Pistons brawl

A federal court jury today dismissed a lawsuit by a Burt man who said Indianapolis Pacers captain Jermaine O'Neal left him permanently injured when O'Neal punched him during a notorious 2004 brawl during an NBA game at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Charles Haddad, 23, alleged O'Neal's punch to his head left him with migraine headaches, memory loss, trouble sleeping, inability to socialize, and aversion to bright lights and loud noises.

But the defense presented evidence Haddad flew to Las Vegas the day after the Nov. 19, 2004 brawl during a game between the Pacers and the Detroit Pistons and had been a regular visitor to the city known for its garish lights and chiming slot machines ever since.

The jury ruled that O'Neal did strike Haddad but that the punch was justified because O'Neal was acting to protect his teammates.

O'Neal testified at the trial that he regretted the incident but he made the best decision he could after two Pacers began fighting in the stands with Pistons fans and other fans, including Haddad, spilled onto the court where O'Neal and his teammates were.

"It became an extremely scary and unbelievable situation," O'Neal testified.

Charles Haddad, you are a sad person.

Your dumbass was in the fighting motion, and you shouldn't have been on the court in the first place, idiot.

Glad it's over.

Haddad took what should've been a win, or sure-fire settlement, IMHO and pi$$ed it away with stupidity.

Of course stupidity is how he got in the position in the first place.

Or another way to say it... He made it easy for the jury to find against him.

Justice is served....twice.

Once by JO.....and once again by the jury.

Glad to see some sanity in a court. Haddad crossed the line when he entered the court.

He's 23 and will never be able to bring another lawsuit into court. How tragic.:D

Too bad David Stern and the NBA didn't see the same logic these jurors off the street did.

Are you kidding me? Everything that happened that night was the Pacers fault.

Those poor fans. They even had to start throwing anything they could get their hands on at the barbaric Pacers just to protect themselves.......

*Stern and the NBA's line of thinking, probably*
