I felt better this morning, but after the news about Jack, I'm a bit worried. I voted for Flight on the poll.

Anyhow, :boomer:

James "Flight" aKa "sexual chocolate" White gets my vote. I cant wait to see him light it up tonight :D

I saw James White during summer league (the commentators thought he had a bad attitude, which does concern me a little although they weren't professionals), but I wasn't able to catch a glimpse of Josh Powell, who is apparently JO'Neal's new best friend (Jackson's replacement?)...

Dukins
10-11-2006, 05:54 PM
James White, i believe he can be one of the better players the pacers have ever had. He can do it all. Im excited.

I think it's really important that Quis establishes himself as a vital part of this roster on both ends because I think he has the ability and is more ready than JW to fill in for Jax at this point should Jax be put in jail (i was going to say lynched or hung, but you know...).

Coop
10-11-2006, 07:04 PM
Here we go!! I can't wait.

Things I'm looking for:

- Harringtons improvement since he left
- Flight (hopefully starting) vs. Carter/Jefferson
- A quicker JO
- High powered offense
- improved Granger
- then the other new guys

Dukins
10-11-2006, 07:05 PM

Ok, decided to stay home. Sold tickets last minute.

Too bad JO's there, but won't play. I was really lookin forward to see him play.

No play by play tonight, I'd love to, but I have a genetics project I need to finish. I will come through with some stats or something though. :)

I have a paper due tomorrow on Stem Cell Research, but you don't see me doing it.

But as long as your play-by-play is in mid-season form by the time the regular season rolls around, I'll be willing to accept your excuse.

6-2 Nets at the 9:25 mark. TO by the Pacers. We've been settling for a lot of outside shots.

Okay, okay. This is big for me though. I'm no longer a ball-kid and am depending on my grades to go to the games. :uhoh: pahaha.

Yes, the play by plays will definitely be around by regular season. In fact, it could be there after Saturday's game vs. Utah.

I still think that James White needs to be more aggresive. Coming to the ball.

I think Cabbage and Harrison somehow get the best out of each other. When they are on the floor together, good things start to happen.

Coop
10-11-2006, 07:37 PM
I think it's about time for an Armstrong and Williams sighting. We started slow but I've been impressed with nearly everyone so far. I honestly think we would be okay without Jack this year. Flight and Quis seem to make up for what he brings.

I'm watching it in Iraq right now. You would have to have someone on the sending end.

We were doing well, but being that the Nets were in the penalty with about 7:38 left was nothing but trouble. They took the lead and kept it in the final minutes of the half. DA had a great play to end it though. Down 6. Not too bad.

Really though, the team doesn't need Jackson. Even if he was a saint, they don't need him, because he's a poor percentage shooter, can't dribble, isn't clutch, doesn't get boards and doesn't get assists.

It's too early to call Bird and Walsh geniuses, but they certainly are taking the right approach (speed + athleticism). Hunter/Edwards/Lampley and Marshall will likely be cut, unless the team parts ways with Jackson, which would allow them to keep Rawle.

It's too bad Armstrong is guaranteed a spot. He's at best a 3rd string PG and possibly fourth if Greene is kept.

Powell, Marshall and Greene were all great. Greene is a beast defensively. I'd have to say that it is going to be an incredibly difficult to choose on to cut.

Baston is pure energy he is everywhere.

Granger was well what we want from Granger. Nothing amazing but did everything that was asked of him. Battled through foul trouble.

Sarunas looked a lot better when he was at the PG. Rick dabbled with him at the 2. NOt sure why. It still doesn't work. He is a point and should be our backup.

Foster was relatively uneventful.

Flight was ok. He definetely is a hell of an athlete and has a motor.

Shawne was good. I think people are being too rough on him. He played hard, ran the court, crashed the boards and played solid D.

Quis was good in flashes didn't get a ton of PT.

Snap, Edwards, and Lampley are toast. No chance in hell any of them make the roster.

Bottom Line:

THIS TEAM IS FUN TO WATCH. They run all the time. They get back on D. They look like they have good chemistry. They are all over the place all the time and are pure energy. If they keep this up in the reg season we are gonna win our fair share of games. With or without Jackson.

Wow, we outscored them 30 to 11 in the fourth quarter.

Bravo.

From what y'all have said, I'm impressed. It certainly seems as if the new offense is a good fit.

Really though, the team doesn't need Jackson. Even if he was a saint, they don't need him, because he's a poor percentage shooter, can't dribble, isn't clutch, doesn't get boards and doesn't get assists.

Jack may very well be the most clutch player we have. It seems funny to even say otherwise.

2 questions for us out-of-staters...
1) How did Harrison do?
2) Did NJ play really poorly? (VC didn't play did he?)

Am I in the minority of wanting to keep both Marshall and Powell , even perhaps at the expense of Greene ?

No offense, but don't kid yourself.

Fraid your not. But I hope we can keep Green too though. Maybe we can waive Armstrong and bring him in as a special assistant or something.

2 questions for us out-of-staters...
1) How did Harrison do?
2) Did NJ play really poorly? (VC didn't play did he?)

Harrison slimer body, lost about 30 pounds. Same concrete hands. He did play really well, besides a couple of times he couldnt catch the ball.
l

NJ played really well, Marcus Williams (damn what a steal by NJ), VC didnt plat in the game. Towards the end of the game It was all Orien Greene. He was the differencemaker/

Indiana 103, New Jersey 89

By CLIFF BRUNT, Associated Press Writer
October 11, 2006

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Al Harrington scored 21 points in his homecoming as the short-handed Indiana Pacers beat the New Jersey Nets 103-89 on Wednesday night in the preseason opener for both teams.

Indiana forward Jermaine O'Neal returned from his trial in Detroit over a lawsuit stemming from the brawl with fans there two years ago and dressed for the game but did not play. He missed practice on Tuesday.

Pacers guard Stephen Jackson, who was charged earlier Wednesday with felony criminal recklessness and misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct for his role in an altercation at an area strip club last Friday, was not with the team.

The sparse crowd offered a mixed reaction when Jamaal Tinsley, who was at the club with Jackson, was introduced as a starter.

New Jersey guard Jay Williams played for the first time since a motorcycle accident nearly ended his career three years ago. He finished with two points in 16 minutes.

Harrington was 10-for-21 from the field and had nine rebounds in his first game with the Pacers after spending two years with the Atlanta Hawks.

Second-year guard Antoine Wright led New Jersey with 23 points. He averaged 1.8 points as a rookie.

The Pacers trailed 13-3 before pulling ahead 24-21 at the end of the first quarter.

Richard Jefferson scored 13 points in the second quarter to help the Nets take a 51-45 lead at halftime.

New Jersey held on to take a 78-73 lead into the fourth quarter.

Indiana went on a 12-0 run early in the fourth quarter that included a spectacular dunk by Maceo Baston on an alley-oop pass from Orien Greene. The basket gave the Pacers a 90-80 lead, and New Jersey never recovered.

Admit it, you thought what I (and others) said about the offense at the Fan Jam was exaggerated or wrong, didn't you? ;) It's really ****ing fun to watch. Gnome and I both came away very impressed with what we saw Sunday, and it's fun to read you all experiencing it for the first time tonight. This offense is different, it's better, and it's a thousand times more fun to watch.

I can't believe there aren't more cries of "CUT JAX!"

(I suggested this in the "Who do we cut?" thread.)

Anyone know where to get clips? I was on a flight from LA to Indy last night and I'm bummed that I missed it. Just reading this post has my excited for the season, Jackson or no Jackson.
