View Full Version : Keeper League Expansion Draft Thread

Hicks, able,

This is the thread for the Keeper League Expansion Draft. You have 15 minutes between picks - roughly. I'm not hitting an egg timer or anything.

Any NBA player is available with the following exceptions:

1 - A player on an existing team's protected list
2 - "New" rookies - a player whose rights have never been "owned" by any NBA team prior to this season. Obviously, that includes anyone drafted this June. I'm sure there are undrafted rooks who've signed as FA's this summer but I haven't compiled a list of these folks or anything.

Also, keep in mind that you can only select one unprotected player from any team - once one is picked, the other 3 unprotected players are off-limits.

Existing owners, please feel free to watch and check to make sure everything's OK - use a Pager message if something's not right.

Here's you're draft order guys - have fun!

I take Peja Stojakovic, from "Bad News"

DisplacedKnick

OK - that takes Mike Dunleavy, Eric Dampier & Rasho Nesterovic off the board.

I hope able joins us - he doesn't seem to be online at the moment. I sure don't want to skip people in an expansion draft.

What do we do now?

I'm HOPING that he's off an hour on times.

If he's not, that's up to you. In theory you could pick your next 2, we wait half an hour, you pick your next two - in essence you might end up picking your 9 and leaving able with whatever's left.

The other option's to re-schedule. I'm not positive when that'll work for me. Next weekend isn't as good though I could probably fit it in somewhere. Or another owner could manage it - they've been through as many of these as I have. Evenings this week aren't bad for the most part.

Thassok - I saw you were posting rather late on here last night.

Phew! Glad you're here.

Thanks guys - stumbled a bit but it was OK.

That's a first though - every player selected was on a team's summer roster.

James - appreciate it. One less thing I had to do. I'll summarize this and send an e-mail out to everyone - I can get rid of my expansion list and add you two to the rest of the group.

Your team looks to have guys that have had big seasons in the past and come in with question marks. That they all play the same position makes it interesting. Since Able is in my division, I look forward to those automatic wins in my quest to return tothe top of the standings.

Yeah, I do need help at C. I was considering Morrison or Gay, but if a C is there, I should probably take him. Who were considered the top C's in the 2006 draft?

I'm looking at the draft list right now, and it depends on who we allow to be called a center. According to nbadraft.net, the only centers in the first round are:

Shelden Williams
Patrick O'Bryant
Saer Sene
Hilton Armstrong

That's where research comes in. Go to reputable sites like Hoopshype, along with sites like ESPN and check their depth charts. Then if you can find an article or two saying your guy will be playing a certain position, put it up for a vote to the league.

Frex, I have Troy Murphy.

and he's a FC.

Now typically, you wouldn't think of him as a C, but I showed proof that he's been playing there and showed depth charts listing him. If you look at this year, I have this quote to show anyone who doubts, since they have a new coach:

http://www.rotoworld.com/images/pixel.gif
"Rookie center Patrick O'Bryant (broken right foot) was cleared to participate in noncontact practices and hit the floor Wednesday.
He says he'll be scrimmaging in a few days, but we're guessing he doesn't see much playing time this year. The Warriors are going to use Troy Murphy a lot at center, and Adonal Foyle and Andris Biedrins are likely to get the rest of the minutes in the rotation.
Source: Contra Costa Times" (http://www.contracostatimes.com/mld/cctimes/sports/basketball/nba/golden_state_warriors/15683747.htm)

Try and find stuff like that...a guy who's maybe injured and someone fills his spot that normally wouldn't play his spot. Or look for a guy who's floundering badly, like Ike Diogu, who may drop in the depth chart and give someone else a chance to step up.

And don't just look at rookies. There are some choice picks from guys who have been in the league for a while. First round pick doesn't mean you need to take a rookie. Bonzi Wells and Alonzo Mourning went in the first round last year and had a big impact on hteir teams.

SycamoreKen
10-11-2006, 04:37 PM
Hicks, weren't you in the regular PD league last year?

Hicks
10-13-2006, 09:32 PM
