The Indiana Pacers still plan to unveil their new-and-improved transition game today at Fan Jam (4-7 p.m.; admission is free), but it remains to be seen how well it will be received after Stephen Jackson and three teammates were involved in a gun-related incident early Friday morning at a Westside strip club.

Most of the team spent Friday evening at Jackson's house, where he is recovering from injuries related to the incident.

"He seems to be pretty upbeat," Jermaine O'Neal said after Saturday's practice. "It's a blessing that he's alive and able to walk and stuff. Being there for him mentally is the biggest thing for him right now. We love him, we care about him and want him to make a full recovery from his bumps and bruises and get back on the court. That's what it is for us."

Jackson suffered bruises and received stitches in his lip after, police said, he was punched in the face and struck by a car. Afterward, he fired five shots with a handgun, police said. No arrests have been made, and police said Jackson acted in self-defense.

"We've been through some tough things before," Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said Saturday. "You get through it by sticking together and we've had great fan support. Our fans have been great and I don't see any reason why have they won't continue to be great."

Fans likely won't see Jackson today. He isn't expected at Fan Jam. Three teammates who were at the strip club with Jackson -- starting point guard Jamaal Tinsley, Marquis Daniels and Jimmie "Snap" Hunter -- will play today.

O'Neal said he didn't want fans to think this is the "same old team every time something goes wrong in a negative way."

"I'm asking the fans personally to give this organization a chance, give this team a chance," O'Neal said. "No matter what it is, people are going to have their own opinion about this team and it's up to us basketball-wise to put out a product that's going to be presentable to the public and is fun to watch."

Two former Pacers now with the Dallas Mavericks told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that they wondered what impact the latest incident will have.

"It's definitely unfortunate for those guys to be involved in a confrontation," Anthony Johnson told the paper. "Nothing positive is ever going to come out of that. For guns to be involved, it's definitely a negative situation."

Added Austin Croshere: "Hopefully those guys will get a fair shake with it, and people can judge them just on this single incident instead of bringing the brawl (Nov. 19, 2004) into it as well."

Getting to know Orien Greene

Position: Point guard.
Jersey number: 5.
Height, weight: 6-4, 208.
Age: 24.
Hometown: Gainesville, Fla.
College: Louisiana-Lafayette.
Pro tenure: Selected by Boston in the second round of the 2005 draft. Played in 80 games for the Celtics last season, averaging 3.2 points.

Question: Your bio says you're a movie buff and you like to bowl. What are your favorites movies?
Answer: I've got a bunch of favorite movies. "Scarface." "Goodfellas." "Casino." All that mafia stuff. Al Pacino is my favorite actor.

Q: What kind of bowler are you?
A: I'm a decent bowler. The last time I bowled was at Darrell Armstrong's celebrity weekend in Orlando. I didn't have a good outing. I have to get back in the lab and work on it. I rolled like a 115, 120.

Q: What's your best score?
A: Right around 200.

Q: Is that your best sport outside of basketball?
A: Probably. But I'm a helluva Madden player. If anybody in the country wants to play me in Madden '07 on Playstation, come see me.

Q: Have you played other guys on the team?
A: I'm about 5-0 on the team right now.

Q: What team are you when you play?
A: I usually take the Redskins, the Bengals or the Colts. I like Peyton (Manning). Miami, Jacksonville, too. I can win with any team.

Q: How many hours do you spend each day playing?
A: Countless.

Rick and JO realize how ****ed up a lot of Pacers fans reactions to the incident have been. They are doing their best and just want a chance to play ball without having their own fans denounce them. Rick's quote is important; it shows that he is on Jax's side:-o . Heed their advice fellow fans; and if you don't like the team, get the **** out of the stadium (figuratively). Go Pacers.
