I’ve had a very hectic offseason. It was really busy trying to get a deal done, but once I signed with the Pacers I just started working on my game and getting settled in back in Indiana. When you get as old as I am though, there’s not any specific thing to work on. I’ve been around for a long time so I’m just trying to sharpen all my skills.
The best part about being back in Indiana is the expectation of winning. We’re not talking about trying to make the playoffs we’re talking about being title contenders here. My family moved to Indiana when I was a rookie, so I have them all here, so the goals for this season are very simple: I’m looking for us to be the top team in the East. I’m just ready to get going and get out on the court.

http://www.nba.com/media/playerfile/stephen_jackson.jpg Posted by Stephen Jackson on Oct. 2, 2006 at 4 p.m. ET
My offseason has been very busy. I’ve been getting my school, the Stephen Jackson Academy, set up and running, so that took up some time. Other than that I’ve really been trying to find myself and get back to my roots of my game. Now I just want to get into camp and start going with basketball again.
It’s great looking at our roster and knowing that we’re more talented now. Bringing back Al Harrington and bringing in a guy like Marquis Daniels we now have seven or eight guys who we can put on the floor and can all lead this team in scoring on any given night. We have the talent to make it a long way. Now I’m just looking to get the season started, it’ll be good to get out there and bang around with other guys instead of just teammates in camp every day.

Listening to Kevin Lee tonight, he said that Rick said in his press conference today that Rick went to JO and Jax before he signed the extension to make sure they were OK with Rick as their coach. During Rick conference today Jax came into the room and sat down next to Rick just to show that he is fine with Rick.

Why doesn't Pacers.com have the transcript up yet.

Maybe WTHR.com has it

It's the same mohawk AJ had going last year at this time, which thankfully he cut off.

Jax still has a beard in there, though obviously not the reported long beard. I really like the look. I also have to say that the clean cut thing works for JO. In the video he looked younger, but here he just looks more like a pro, all business.

The ad campaign did nothing for me, it tries to hard to make the point of "we're sorry". But media day...oh man, I'm geeked up now.

I don't care how ugly it got, that's still F'n funny to me. And not because I'm laughing at Tinsley either, I'm laughing with him. Things were so nuts I can see where you think "oh, I'm going to knock some of these crazy MFers back so we can get the F outta here".

But then it's a dustpan.

It would only be funnier if he'd not been looking and pulled out a bundle of cotton candy from a nearby vendor caught in the melee. :D

I mean is the first question "why are you going to retaliate and make it worse" or "why a dustpan"?

In addition to being an enforcer in the paint for Chicago this year, Paxson has asked Ben to double as Benny the Bull's probationary officer.

Benny had no comment, but did nod in agreement when asked if he would not touch Big Ben's sun glasses...

In a related story Ben Wallace has replaced Erik Estrada in the upcoming blockbuster CHiPs IV: Chicago.

DA looks real good in a Pacers jersey in that clip. I wasn't too excited about picking him up because of his age, but actually seeing him in the jersey changes my mind a little bit. I used to be a big fan of his when he played for Orlando, hopefully he'll still be able to bring something to the court.

"Stephen Jackson Academy?" What's that about?

Stephen Jackson donated some money over the summer to start an elementary school in his hometown of Port Arthur, Texas.

http://www.hoopsvibe.com/nba-blog/stephen-jackson-opens-academy-in-his-name-ar32008.html

Some took that as proof that he's a great man, and other just figured his accountants advised him to donate it rather than pay it in taxes. Either way, it was a decent thing to do. The academy just got going in August, so he probably had several appearances at the opening.

I don't expect too much production from Daniels this seaon. I see him more as a "hopeful" - much like Jasikevicius was last year at this time.

So if I don't see him as a star why does he get an avatar from me? Well, he just *seems* like the kind of guy I could get along with on a personal level. I like him for many of the same reasons I like Pollard. Style goes a long way with me.

Alright, so in addition to writing I work as a DVD Tester out here in L.A. Today I just happened to test Game 6 of the 2006 Finals. Re-watching Marquis Daniels in this game, I came away so impressed. This guy single-handedly got them back into a huge elimination game with his third-quarter outburst. He is so athletic and can really drive. He will either be starting by season's end or win sixth man of the year. Trust me on this one, fellas. We got the steal of the summer in this guy. 'Quis is a legitimate two-way stud.
