Dallas is a great team and is no longer soft...and they seem to be able to play anyone's style, while playing it better. However, Miami is hungry and their vets know this may be the last time they get a shot. I will go with Shaq, Wade and their supporting cast.

The NBA finals are a whole new ballgame. I think the combined experience of Shaq and Pat Riley gives them an edge the Mavericks simply won't be able to overcome...

Miami in 6.

Dallas in 6. Theres no one on Miami's roster that can stop Dirk. And Wade will have trouble with Howard guarding him. Shaq will get his, but if Dallas can get him in foul trouble its over.

My gut tells me it'll be the Mavs but I've been wrong about the Heat all through the Playoffs. I was certain they'd trip over the Nets and get murdered by the Pistons, so I gotta say I have no idea who will win. I think it will be a good series however.

Miami in six, I'm not lucky enough to have the team I want to win do so :(

The 2-3-2 format of the finals is always the problem. If the home team sweeps the first two games, the series is over. It is a much freindlier format to the team with home court advantage than 2-2-1-1-1.

That's why I pick Dallas is six. They'll likely win 2 at home, take one at Miami, and then close it out in game six.

Originally I was going to predict Dallas, but I think there are two factors that will sway the series in Miami's favor.

First, Pat Riley. He'll keep his team in games, and close games will be in Miami's favor.

Second, Shaq. Or more accurately, the refs' treatment of Shaq. Inevitably, there will be some inexplicable bad call that goes in Shaq's favor that will turn a game or two.

Yes, the 2-3-2 format does favor the better record team more than the 2-2-1-1-1 format.

The better record team has won 80% of finals since 2-3-2 was adopted, but a significantly lower percentage (60-70%) of both conference finals and second round matchups.

Sweeping the 3-4-5 games has never been done, I believe. That makes it imperative for the lower record team to split the first two.

If they do that, then win two of three at home, and THEN also win either game 6 or game 7 on the road, they win. A tall order.

Harder still of course is to lose the first 2 and then need to win games 6 and 7 on the road.

wow no one thinks it will go less than 6 games

I'd be shocked if it did.

I personally expect the Heat to take one in Dallas, and the Mavs to take 1-2 in Miami. So I could see Dallas in either 6 or 7, though I wouldn't be horribly shocked to see Miami win in 6 or 7 as well.

I'll be pulling hard for Dallas, though. We don't need Fatty Fat Fat and Trash Mouth getting rings.

Can I change mine to Mavs in 5?

Ron who?
06-08-2006, 04:27 PM
im not sure... i believe that Miami has the best chance simply because of shere experience... but even though you guys are all thinking about dirk doing something i believe that the key to the series (just like every other one for dallas) is gonna be Josh Howard... besides i think everybody on the heat besides D-Wade should die and i think Dirk should die... so i suppose i would rather have more heat players dying then Mavericks soooo

Mavs in 7 because i want Dirk to cry before he wins so atleast i know he felt bad for a little while before he ended up having glory and i also hope that Jason Terry (my favorite player in the finals) should get the Finals MVP or Josh Howard (my second favorite)

If I hadn't set a date to close the poll before game 1, I'm sure we would be getting some 4 & 5 game picks for the Mavs now.

I'll be the first to say that, whicle I picked the Mavs in 6, I ALMOST picked the Mavs in 5.
