I liked the guy and I don't understand why so many didn't. Is there a reason he is out of the league now?

Yes.

He just isn't a very good player. He's very average and just doesn't add much to a team.

He had some pretty unaverage years there.

I say bring the guy back so maybe he like AJ and Jackson can take out their anger on the Nets.

Big stats on bad teams.

Not a steady contributor on 0.500 teams.

For the vet's minimum, I'd be interested.

If you don't like SJax because he's a streaky shooter....

Oh I like Stephen Jackson. If they are both streaky, one of them is bound to be on.

A thread dedicated to a player who has been out of the league for the better part of a year.

Yep - it's been a slow offseason so far.

I honestly think he's still playing for the national team.

It's not a white or black thing, it's the fact we don't have any purple players that is hurting us. The Pacers have never won an NBA Finals series and they've never had a purple player. Coincidence? I think not...

The Fever could use some of those green women like Capt Kirk used to hang out with as well... tho that is a different thread.

Where's Jamison Brewer at?

We want a fast point who can defend, right?

I don't think he made a roster this year. Which is inconcievable.

Ron just wasn't that good. I will say, I was impressed the way he stepped in during the NJ series and played point, though.

Also, while Slick was very critical of Isiah not playing him enough, the guy fell worse than Travis after leaving here, getting cut by two different teams while both still owed him money. SA I can understand, but NJ pre-Vince was in desparate need of a 2, and he still couldn't get any PT.

there is a reason mercer isn't in the league anymore.

if he had anything left.....you would think a team like denver would have picked him up last season.

Nah.... I think he really pissed them off in Denver the first time he was there.

Atleast he was healthy which can't be said for many players we have now.

Actually, he was an IR mainstay in New Jersey.

Mercer came into the NBA as a very good athlete without much range (maybe to 18 ft.). He was a streaky midrange jumpshooter who could slash. Pitino liked him at UK and stretched a lot to draft him high in the lottery.

Very soon he had knee injuries that took away his athletic skills, so all that was left was the basketball skills.

Once his knees were shot he was not worth much.

he does not.

Are you 100% positive? I'm pretty sure he at least played last year...

:) You beat me to that one. I have to admit I thought of Jamison when I was making my case for Rambo the other day!

He's not that good, but it's still a bit hard to believe no team has picked him up. There is no way every single player in the league from Top to Bottom is better than Ron Mercer.

Ron Mercer is similar to Jax.
Jax isn't really worth more than Ron.

You're right. If this were about talent, he'd still be in the league. Me thinks there's some attitude problems there.

Im 100% positive. And he didn't play last year :P. He retired as a player after the 2004-05 season but he didnt play with his national team.

Sabonis' last game was the saddest anyone could imagine. His team Zalgiris were almost in the Euroleague Final four with 30 seconds left. Then Maccabi made two with a stupid Gustas' foul, after that Maccabi fouled Gustas, Gustas missed both freethrows, Zalgiris center Tanoka Beard got an offensive foul and stopped the clock in such way, Maccabi's Derek Sharp recieved full-court pass and made a game tying threepointer.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHGHF4dagns&search=zalgiris%20maccabi

Sabonis ended that game with 29 points (fg:10/13 tp:4/6 ft:5/8), 9 rebounds 3 assists, 1 block, 1 steal, no turnover and 5 fouls (fouled out) in 30 minutes.

He got probably every individual award for the best European player that season. However, the last match of his career was quite cruel :(

So he scored thirty points @ 40 something? Amazing...
