View Full Version : Cassell reportedly looking for 2 years, $8 mil or will look to leave..

The Clippers' Sam Cassell is said to be looking for two years at about $8 million annually. If the Clippers don't make a quick offer, he says he'll look to leave. The problem is that at 37 he's unlikely to get a team to give him more than the salary-cap exception of about $5 million. . ..

I don't care how old Sam is, I think that 8 mil is reasonable, and he deserves it.

8 million for a player of his calibre is still good no matter what his age is. If he can play like he did this year then its more then worth it. Hope we can get him somehow.

Didn't like him when he was 27. Sure as heck not paying him more than we'd pay Freddie.

are you aware of our point guards? and actualy what exactly you dislike about him at this moment?

I say go for it. Would probably have to be a S&T. What could we offer?

Why would the Clips trade him or let him go? That would be foolish. Livingston isn't ready yet. Two years is not a lot but it's just enough time for Livingston to be ready to lead this franchise.

Yeah, lets sign him, cause then not only will we have the Lithuanian following, but we'll have to deal with all the Martian homers too. :unimpress

Maybe we could get Maggette away from them and throw in one of our PG's and a pick

Yes but who knows how old he is in martian years. I mean he could play for another 872 years. We don't know enough about the martian culture to judge how old he is.

Oddly enough.....at his age....Cassell is far more durable then Tinsley is.....admittedly....that's not saying much though.

The problem with Cassell is not whether he can bring it or not, his age or even his suspicious Alien-heritage......its that we are in the same situation with him that we are with Tinsley.....specifically that we would have to keep a 3-PG rotation in order to guard against any potential injury that he can get.

Even with an upgrade at the PG position with Cassell over Tinsley....I'm not comfortable with a 3-headed PG rotation.

For now...I am going to pass on Cassell....unless Carlisle decides to leave and we are not forced to watch Sarunas play the backup 2-Guard position.

I think that in the MBA ( the Martian Basketball Association ), the average age of a PG extends to about 912 Martian years.....that's about 40 Martian Years....which translates into about 1 or 2 NBA seasons....MAX.

Completely disagree. Livingston IS ready. However, Cassell is still a player the Clips need to keep if they want to make a big playoff push again next year. They need to upgrade at the 2 or at least add depth to post. I don't think getting rid of him would be such a great idea for them. As for trading him for Sjack, I don't think that would fly with them and I am glad it wouldn't. I think Sjack is much better than people give him credit for. Everyone hates him but loves JO, I am on the flipside of that viewpoint.

I hear Austin is availiable for that sign and trade not that it would
happen.

If we had Cassell and AJ as our pg then we wouldn't have to have 3 pgs.
OF course we would officially have the oldest rotation around but still
effective.

Are you sure you want another player with recurring back problems? Cassell has his upside, to be sure, but his age AND the back problems that come and go like the tides would have to be a major consideration.

At our slow plodding offense I am sure he would be ok and I thought his
back wasn't all that bad this year.

Granted, he didn't have the number of problems he's had before but you can't overlook his age, can you? He isn't getting any younger. He's playing against players who are mostly 10+ years younger than he is. As good as the alien has been over the years, he's a real longshot for any team. I'd rather see you guys grab someone without quite so much "NAME" and a little more "youth," but that's just my two cents.

What the hell, I figure 3 PGs is an improvement over the current 4 that we are carrying.

Cassell, who is 36 (not the 37 that's been reported above) has played in 74 games or more in each of the last 6 season with the exception of the 04-05 season in which he was injured.

If we can't get our hands on Mike James or trade up in the draft to get our future starting PG, I could be happy with Cassell for 2 years.

I'd take Sam for two years. Bad attitude? I don't think so. He's been part of winning teams everywhere he has went and I think that experience is a big part of what helped the Clippers get over the hump this season.

Sam Cassell is the Larry Brown of point guards. Wins wherever he goes. When the going gets bad, he gets out. And he goes elsewhere and wins again.

Signing up Sam for a couple years should be a no brainer assuming the Pacers are run by people who have an intelligent clue about the game.

I have always been a Big Cassell fan since his days as a Rocket, he just has "it".

If you can sign him for the amount reported. as someone with his experience especially in the clutch, you do it.. instant improvement, regardless his age. You also gain a natural floor general, something that is in shorty supply on this team.

That better be like oral hygiene products are in "short supply" in England. O yea, their there, but no one uses them or even tries to!

Twolves w/ Sam WCFs.
Twolves w/o Sam no playoffs.
Rockets w/ Sam back to back champs.
Rockets w/o Sam 8th seed out in round 1. (w/ Barkley)
Clips w/ Sam 2nd round loss in game 7 in his first year.
He is a great player the oppisite of a guy like Maurbury.
I doubt the Pacers would condider. They will be looking long term and not the quick fix.
The Clips should meet his demand and let him finish in LA. The Clips would benefit from a full year of Maggette, Brand and Sam. Chemesitry would improve them alone.
