View Full Version : People who should retire

I'm fed up with a guy in my office that should just retire already! Instead, he seems to be picking up speed, while simultaneously getting further and further disorganized and behind. He's in an entirely different state today, yet he kept me busy almost the entire frakkin' day! I had a stack of ten different items to work on, with his instructions dictated on a handy-dandy tape. :sigh:

I'm not the only one picking up his slack. Some of his grad students and people in the business office seem equally pestered by his behavior. The guy is a friggin' workaholic and expects everyone around him to be. He'll call people in the evenings and on weekends to take care of work he couldn't complete during the week.

I spend 90% or more of my time working on stuff for him, yet I'm supposed to serve 5 other faculty members.

He's past retirement age, seems fine financially, and his wife's health is questionable (not to mention his own at times). But he keeps trucking on like some stubborn fool. It's insane!

I have no problem with people working as long as they want to, UNLESS the quality of their work seriously declines and other people are having to take up the slack. I am not looking forward to the next few months, when he's expecting to be out of the office three months out of four. Because guess who will have to coordinate all the business he should be taking care of? And who the heck is teaching this guy's classes? Will you just retire already? :grumble:

It's the Catch-22 of life. You spend your entire youth working to amass wealth that you're too old to fully enjoy by the time you retire. The guy is probably too scared to quit because he would have nothing left to look forward to until he dies.

Btw, on thread topic, other people that should retire:

Dick Bavetta
Bob Knight

I might never retire if I don't have to. Of course I'll have had so many kids by then who drive me up the wall that by the time I reach the 5,000th one, and by then he'll be legally allowed to tazer me in case I might potentially harm him, I may have to hang it up.

Then, after you die, you'll have 72 virgins waiting in heaven to start the cycle all over again.

I think that's the sort of statement you shouldn't make until you've at least started to work a job. A lot of teachers burn out very quickly.

Nature didn't bless me with the same equipment Kermit has.

I feel your pain, a guy in my office transferred from a different state when they opened up this office where I got a job, he's only like 46 or something but whinges and moans like he's 86, he has some kidney problem and all I hear all day is his groaning and moaning about the pain, it drives me insane, he just needs to retiree and take his problem on vacation instead of hassling me about it an making me do his work he doesn’t want too while enjoying it with his groans

but hey that’s life... one day I’ll be Boss...
