ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) - Penny Hardaway won't be reunited with the Orlando Magic.

The Magic waived the veteran guard on Friday, just two days after acquiring him from the New York Knicks along with forward Trevor Ariza for star guard Steve Francis.

The oft-injured Hardaway was appealing to the Magic only because his $15.7 million salary is coming off the books at the end of the season.

Hardaway, 34, spent his first six seasons with the Magic and was a four-time All-Star for them from 1995-98 but is merely a shell of his former self due to knee and ankle problems.

The 6-7 Hardaway played in just four games with the Knicks this season, averaging 2.5 points and 2.5 rebounds. Last season, he played in only 37 games and averaged 7.3 points and 2.4 rebounds.

In 688 career games with Orlando, Phoenix and New York, Hardaway has averaged 15.4 points, 5.1 assists and 4.5 rebounds.

Think anyone will pick him up, or is that the end of his career?

Can he still play the point? Maybe the Pistons

I think he's done. He's old and has lost his hops.

It's too bad he got hurt. I remember seeing him play in college and he was the real deal.

Yeah poor Penny. He played with the Greatest.

He said recently that sitting on the bench in NY is not the way he wanted to end his career. He wanted to go home, to Orlando. And he got stabbed in the back.

Well, thats life. In the bottom line it's all about the money.:(

What, nobody's said we should pick him up? I'm shocked, shocked I tell you!

if you are willing to pick up the $15.7 million tab, Donnie might pick him up.

I meant after he cleared waivers. It's stupid enough to pick him up for the vet min, but if anyone said we should claim his salary, they should be committed.

Penny sucks now. Not even close to worth the $15.7. I still prefer his salary and Ariza to Francis though. I would much rather have 'cap room' on the knicks than yet another unhappy poor shooting 'PG'.

At least we'll always have "Blue Chips" to remember him by.

I'm not sure that's a true statement. In fact, I'm not sure if that statement will be true in the year 2012, or 2020 for that matter. Basketball IQ will make up for a multitude of sins.

Not with Bender knees, it doesn't.

Not with Bender knees, it doesn't.

So I guess the question becomes: Would you rather have a guy who can't beat anybody off the dribble, can't get any lift, and can't play full speed, or a guy who can't get the ball past halfcourt, is invisible once it gets past halfcourt, and can't finish if he does somehow manage to get the ball past his defender?

I wish someone had a Penny mix.
