thought I'd start it out.

Kstat
02-18-2006, 09:49 PM
DAMN nobody's beating that 25-second finish by the Spurs...

Kstat
02-18-2006, 09:51 PM
Geez, Kobe can't even get a decent supporting cast in the "shooting stars" contest....

It takes Kobe one try to hit a halfcourt shot, but it takes lisa leslie 8 tries to make a 10-footer, and Magic 10 tried to hit a 20-footer...

Trader Joe
02-18-2006, 09:51 PM
Yeah, I missed the spurs, but how about Kobe first half court shot nothing but net.

Trader Joe
02-18-2006, 09:52 PM
Magic looked old as hell out there. Right now Reggie >>>>>>> Magic. ;)

Kstat
02-18-2006, 09:53 PM
Yeah, I missed the spurs, but how about Kobe first half court shot nothing but net.

Tony Parker did the same thing.

Kstat
02-18-2006, 09:54 PM
TMac actually needed 2 tries to hit his halfcourt shot.

Trader Joe
02-18-2006, 09:56 PM
Tony Parker did the same thing.

He had to impress Eva.

Man the suns got off to a blistering start and then blew it.

Kstat
02-18-2006, 09:56 PM
LMAO neither Matrix nor Majerle could come close on the halfcourt shot.....the woman had to do it for them

Kstat
02-18-2006, 10:02 PM
Man, I can't believe that those guys won $45,000 EACH for winning that stupid contest....

No wonder Parker, Marion, Kobe, TMac all volunteered to be in this thing...

Kstat
02-18-2006, 10:09 PM
I really love the skills contest, I don't care what the rest of you guys say.

Nothing like seeing how proven superstars do with simple fundamentals... the bare roots of the game.

Kstat
02-18-2006, 10:10 PM
So far, Paul's downfall was the 20-foot chest pass, and Wade's downfall was the 15-foot jumper.

LeBron's logest obstacle was the 10-foot chest pass.

Kstat
02-18-2006, 10:13 PM
WOW...Steve Nash finished DEAD LAST.

Shot a full rack of 6 15-footers, missed them ALL.

Trader Joe
02-18-2006, 10:14 PM
Nash coouldn't hit the jumper. If Paul was more confident from the start he would have advanced. By far the most star studded part of the night.

Kstat
02-18-2006, 10:15 PM
LeBron vs Wade in the finals.

Kstat
02-18-2006, 10:18 PM
man, the 10-foot chest pass has killed LeBron in both rounds....

he demolished every other part of the course, though. Let's see what FLash can do.

Trader Joe
02-18-2006, 10:18 PM
What a run by Wade. That was fun to watch.

Kstat
02-18-2006, 10:19 PM
Wade with a PERFECT round! He got every one on the first try!

He beat LeBron's score by 11 seconds! Wow!

Moses
02-18-2006, 10:22 PM
When is the dunk contest? Like what time?

Kstat
02-18-2006, 10:23 PM
whenever the 3-point contest ends.

Kstat
02-18-2006, 10:39 PM
damn, Ray Allen is good....

Kstat
02-18-2006, 10:43 PM
Q-rich is gone. We'll have a new champ this year.

Allen, Dirk and Gilbert are in the finals.

Kstat
02-18-2006, 10:51 PM
its all up to Ray Allen now...can he beat Dirk?

Kstat
02-18-2006, 10:52 PM
Nope.

Dirk becomes the 1st 7-footer ever to win the 3-point contest. Major upset.

Fireball Kid
02-18-2006, 10:56 PM
Woohoo go Dirk.

Let's remember - all these rich guys with big houses, cars, bling - they really care - they really do. ;)

If they didn't care about winning, they'd never have become great athletes.

i love charles. i love reggie. them talking about whether the knicks could beat gonzaga was classic television. too bad magic replaces 31 for the slam dunk.

Josh Smith finished last. Very disappointing.

Jermaniac
02-18-2006, 11:25 PM
Hakim Warrick's dunks > Nate Robinsons dunks. Just because he is short doesnt mean you have to bump his scores up.

Mr.ThunderMakeR
02-18-2006, 11:26 PM
AI2's off the back of the backboard dunk was AMAZING. First original dunk Ive seen in a long time.

Still gotta like Nate just for all the airtime hes getting.

Not impressed by Josh Smith and to be honest, I wasnt really impressed by his dunks last year either.

Warrick is decent, not good enough to win though.

Lord Helmet
02-18-2006, 11:27 PM

Hahaha, The Game.

:lmao:

croz24
02-18-2006, 11:28 PM
WTF Game, why did he put that tape down for?

smith got robbed. all they're doing is getting on him from not dunking from the white line but look at where he took off. only half his foot went over the ft line and he dunked it 2-handed. that dunk was better than any others in the 1st rd.

Jermaniac
02-18-2006, 11:29 PM
Hahaha, The Game.

:lmao:He looks dead on game. They must be brothers.

My bad. And I watch him all the time heh

Mr.ThunderMakeR
02-18-2006, 11:33 PM
Damn I really wish Nate would have made that first attempt, that would have won it I think. The one he did make was still pretty damn amazing, but its hard to ignore all those misses.

Kstat

Damn, how the crap does Igoudala not slam the door on Nate......

I agree. I loved it. I was also happy to see Dirk win his contest.

Kstat

It's called "hang time."

It's a lot easier to dunk when you're a foot taller.

Mr.ThunderMakeR
02-18-2006, 11:50 PM
What are the fans booing for, Nate deserved to win that. Iggys final dunk was probably his weakest while Nates was great, even though it was his 14th try. Like they said, the 'official rule' is that misses cant count against him. Nate won fair and square. Through the whole contest Iggy only really had one amazing dunk, while Nate had two really great dunks.

Jermaniac
02-18-2006, 11:50 PM
He won because he was short, not because his dunks where better.

Unclebuck
02-18-2006, 11:50 PM
I have a problem with them being able to take 14 tries to get it done right. There should be a limit of 5 or so.

No way nate should have won.

The best dunk of the night was the behind the backboard dunk. That is one that could be one of the all timers.

Oh well

Kaufman
02-18-2006, 11:51 PM
Someone has to admit that the arena announcer in Houston is trying WAY too hard. Has to be the most annoying voice in the NBA. Thank god for Reb Porter.

Mr.ThunderMakeR
02-18-2006, 11:52 PM
Maybe he got some sympathy points, but I think airtime should be a big part of the score and Nate had to fly more than Iggy. Remember why Jordan used to win the dunk contest? Because of his airtime

Moses
02-18-2006, 11:54 PM
Iggy should have won IMO overall because his behind the backboard dunk as well as his behind the back dunk were two of the most amazing dunks I've ever seen. I don't think you guys realize how hard it is to go behind your back when you dunk..But to Nates credit, he had some impressive dunks. I just think there should have been a limit to them.

Frank Slade
02-18-2006, 11:56 PM

Agreed.. that one over Spud serious hangtime for his size .. wow

Mr.ThunderMakeR
02-18-2006, 11:57 PM
No matter who won, I have to admit I was pleasently surprised by this dunk contest. When I first heard the lineups I though it was gonna be another lousy contest, like last years. But these guys were pretty damn entertaining. Id say it might be the best dunk contest Ive seen since the Vinc/Tmac showdown.

His behind the backboard dunk occured in the first round of competitition; therefore, it does not count in the final round of scoring.

indytoad
02-18-2006, 11:58 PM
I know it's really hokey to say this, but I think this is one of those situations where they both deserved to win.

Both teams played hard, as they say.

I meant as a whole throughout the contest because people were saying he only had one amazing dunk when he actually had two. If Nate hadn't taken 14 tries on each attempt I would have said he wins by a mile in the dunkoff.

I aggree that the misses kind of take away from it, but as the rule stands now the judges arent supposed to take away points for that. Maybe they should change that.

It was a great friggin night, that's all I know.

Wade's "perfect" round in the skills contest was awesome.

Igoudala and Nate put on an awesome show in the dunk contest.

If Igoudala wants the title, he can take it by force next year.

I dunno, Josh Smith had an extremely off night. Hakim Warrick didn't look as bad as you thought either..He almost made it into the finals. :D But god damn, that man is skinny.

But yeah, I was actually looking foward to this all-star weekend.

I had fun watching it tonight on delay (via my DVR and getting home late). I loved AI's wrong-side-of-the-backboard dunk, and Nate dunking over Spud Webb. Fun times.

Did anyone notice that most of the defending champs didnt do well this year?

DisplacedKnick
02-19-2006, 09:05 AM
I wonder what his vertical leap is

I've seen it stated as anywhere from 41 to 48 inches. The 48 seems a bit excessive - I'd say in the 43-44" range.

Based on his play this year, Q not winning the 3-pt contest was about as predictable as whether the sun comes up or not.

317Kim
02-19-2006, 09:35 AM
Yeah, I guess that was kind of predictable. I actually felt pretty good when DWade beat Steve Nash in the Skills. Josh Smith didn't do anything spectacular

The only reason he lost in the beginning was because he put that tape down on the ground that made it look like he was going to jump from the 3 point line. Good lord if he had done that, I would have gone crazy. That is such a long distance to cover..Who knows, maybe next year.

317Kim

I don't have any problem with these guys taking taking mulitple runs at completing a said dunk.

I guess some of you haven't tried doing the stuff they're trying to do......but get this - it's kinda difficult.

They're trying to pull some of the most creative stuff we've never seen before - and at this point, that's getting hard. Last night's contest was great, if for no other reason that we SAW some amazing stuff that had never been done before.

Who cares about the missed ones? Seriously...no one is going to look back at that - all that you can appreciate is how hard it is to complete some of those dunks, and it's not going to happen first try (these guys are human). When we look back at this all, we'll just see the completed products and those were amazing. That was a great dunk contest.

Iguodala's behind the back of the backboard dunk was one of the best dunks I've ever seen. Unfortunately for him, none of his others were too special. As for Nate - almost every dunk of his had me out of my seat. I cannot believe the stuff he was doing. I still cannot believe it. Just take a second to think about it - that kid is probably 5'6...it's unbelievable. He deserved that one.

(Outside the dunk contest, I really didn't enjoy the other stuff which is a first).
