When does Rick's show air? Someone needs to call in and grill him about the possibility of maintaining this style of offense that we've seen for the past three games. Obviously, the casual fan's opinion isn't going to have a lot of bearing on Rick's coaching decisions, but, who knows? Any of us could give an informed arguement about how we think this should change. If it were a democracy, and PacerNation got to vote, I know we'd choose this style of offense for when JO comes back. We'd have to raise the point about JO dropping some weight, because of the emergence of Pollard and Hulk at C, and Foster's good play at PF.

Then, of course, on the side, mention that SJax needs a new home and we need a real, consistent, mature SG.

The GunMan? was that Hulk's nickname for Fred? I missed it.

Abby Carlisle is adorable! The Wiggles.

and about JB, they said if he were to leave then it'd be a huge relief to the cap.

Hardball!!!!

What happens when JONeal comes back with the Run and Gun ( I'm guessing that he's referring to the current offense )?

Of course.....Carlisle completely sidesteps the question.

Jermaniac

What happens to it once JO comes back? It goes to hell and we go back to giving JO the ball for 20 seconds of the shot clock. Rick Ball baby. He will never learn.

Hardball 2.......next question...same verse......what happens with Tinsley and JONeal comes back?

Did he really answer this question? I'm lost....Carlisle sounds like he is babbling.

I'm Jay in DC. :)

I tried asking him a little harder question than everyone else did... but hey, Carlisle should go into politics.. he's good at giving an answer that leaves you with more questions.

Yeah, that kinda surprised me. I'm glad the question was at least addressed.

*sigh* well, I guess I can go home now. I stayed at work overtime just to call in the show and I got some work done too, which is always great. my girlfriend won't be happy that I stayed at work and didn't call. she's always like, "it's the Pacers or me!"

And as I always say, "The Pacers were here before you!!!" HA!

.....what did he say?

In classic Rick style, the answer is "we will see when he gets healthy".

You gotta admit, he is smooth.

My understanding of Rick's answer was yes he wants to play more uptempo when Jermaine O'Neal returns. That with Artest and Jermaine we had 2 post players and were not suited to play uptempo , but that Peja's trade made it now possible to play that way. That JO would be good in an uptempo offense.

I hope so...I pray that he does stick with the current offensive schemes ( except when JONeal is abusing the opposing PF / C / Frontline in the post ).

for the first question: Gunman is what Hulk calls the Rifleman
The rifleman helpedFred a lot with his shooting

:P

yes he wants to play fast and the current lineups were an accident due to Scott and jeff needing to start to stay warm and Cro going down, low and behold miracle and now they all like it.

It was NOT premiditated :)

JO and TIns need to get in shape before coming back, and worked slowly in the rotation if possible (other injuries prohibited)
Yes they are btoh suited to play this type of offense, Peja's passing skills and shooting style make it possible to do this.
Team has "less individual(s) that "need" the ball now" that's why it flows, I read this to be a small criticism on Ron specially since he complimented him straight after as if to make up.
My guess is Ron wanted far more "ball control" (as he now has by almost distributing it) then he ever got.

RC is in a tough spot. The fans want the Run n Gun. It is certainly more entertaining. The players enjoy playing that way and it leads to better overall teamwork. BUT, defense wins championships and that is often associated with a methodical style....and with Artest and JO, a slow post up game made sense.

Personnel changes should force RC's hand...hopefully to play more like the Spurs. Good defense AND good ball movement. A post-up game on occasion but not every other time down the floor. It will take a balance, but he will figure it out.

Yeah, but a Championship is out of the equation right now. Lets run up and down, have some fun, and see where it gets us with this bunch. The players like it too like you said, and they'll put their all behind it.

I think that's the message he was trying to get across to everybody. JO's going to fit right into the scheme of things as they are now, but will take time to get back into game shape - same for JT, and Cro. With Peja it's a whole different dynamic than before when we didn't have the steadiness and unselfishness.

I got the feeling Tinsley will not be jumping right back into the rotation when he comes back. I guess it will depend on how well we are playing at the time of his return. Carlisle clearly said that AJ and Sarunas deserve to play. It will be interesting to see how the point guard situation shakes out.

Did you hear Rick say that Dale Davis would probably be starting for us, if he were still a Pacer? I'll still glad Dale was not re-signed - I think we will benefit more by Harrison's forced playing time.

Thanks to M.R. for again providing the recording of the show.

Exactly!

He said AJ deserved to start and Sara's was playing good with the second unit. He said Tins has to get healthy first, then he has to get in shape, then we would have to see how things went.

He didn't guarantee Tins would come back as the starter. In fact it sounded to me like Tins is going to be 3rd string when he comes back.

As for when JO come back, he said he planned to continue to play up tempo like they were doing now.

Now that I've gone back and listened to it again, you're right.
That's exactly what he said.
And it makes plenty of sense too.
When you have two post players, you have to make sure they get their touches within the offense, which means possessions where we have a more free-flowing (or as Coach Carlisle has deemed it "run-n-gun") offense are limited.
Hmmm... I wonder why I didn't catch all of that when he said it last night.
Thanks for the perspective Diamond.

Right on! Unselfishness. That's the most refreshing thing about the dynamic in the win streak. Let's make it 4 straight tonight!

I'm not surprised by that comment. Carlisle goes with his veterans until he has no choice but to play the younger players.
