In 3rd grade my little biddy team the gophers won the championship (1973)
In 4th grade we had the best record in the league but lost the championship game of the tournament, and I cried on the way home. My Mom and the other Mom's had a bake sale at the mall to get us a trophy for the undefeated season.
In 1975 I was on a really bad Big Biddy team. I was the star though. Kinda like Kobe and the lakers now.
In 1982 and 83 Played Church league but didn't go to church enough so got kicked off the team. Kinda like Ron with the Pacers
In 1986 Graduated from college and now work at Burger King. You may have seen me in the commercials... I'm the guy carrying the football.

Played through high school.

Dad was one of my coaches.

Dad's friends were also my coaches.

I've been on numerous scouting trips where it was my job to help Dad diagram the upcoming opponent's offense or defense or stuff like that.

From time to time, I've been a statistician at games.

I've never been blessed with much basketball ability. I have some athletic ability, I was all conference in football in HS and also made it to semi-state as a wrestler. Essentially my greatest gifts were to knock other people down. I still manage to do the mini-marathon every year, but I
am definitely on the chubby side these days.

Having said that, I have played the game. I played on some intramural teams in high school. Like most Indiana University fans, I've seen a lot of the motion offense and fundamentals preached on things like pick and roll, good defensive position, boxing out, setting screens etc. So I think I have a reasonable handle on the game and the core competencies one needs to have to play well.

However, I am not a person who could speak at a high level about things like the Triangle offense etc.

[X ] Athletic trainer. (High school and short time in college)

I also ran the clock/ kept the book high school and/college
Kept shot charts and scouted defenses.

Tried to play but barely made the JV "C" team in HS.

Refereed college intramural (I sucked worse than the players that's why I stuck to being a baseball/softball umpire)

I know far more about basketball now than I ever did playing it. And I still don't know *****, it's just fun to watch. To put some perspective to my high school team, I grew up in a rural county of about 30,000. We had three high schools. Every moron that wanted to play got to play. Hence, I lettered in four sports! The only ones I was remotely good at were baseball, and then golf. Still play golf.......and driveway basketball. My body is now better suited for BASEketball....All that running around and jumping ***** is overrated anyway...

Lol yeah MC thats me.

Rose Hulman offered before my Sr. year. Taylor looked and Huntington wouldn't even give me the time of day. Some Wisconsin DII school offered, but I didn't want to leave home. There was also a school around Miami FL that was looking at me and another kid who played at MC as well.

Miami of OH and Drake sent stuff Jr. year, but I told them I wasn't interested. Central Michigan was interested, they scouted during team camps we played in up there.

JW, you ref the games, covering them, or just want to catch a "good" Class A game? Kind of interested in which games you saw.

I always had a really rough stretch of 4 or 5 games each season, so I usually ask to make sure those went unnoticed.

[X] I'm just a fan, I have no formal training at all.
This was me until I moved to Indiana in 1998. Growing up in Buffalo, I really didn't learn much about the game but I always liked it.

[X] No formal training, but I know X's and O's.
However, when I moved to Indiana I learned much more about the game of basketball. It seems that one learns the ins and outs of defensive rotations, the pick and roll and the like just from drinking the water around here in Bloomington. I still don't know as much as most people around here, but I know a lot more than I did before I got here in 8/98.
