Unclebuck

He is on, he met with Ron this morning and Ron has changed his mind, he now wants to stay. DW said he still would like to trade ron, but he'll leave it up to The Pacers players

BRAVO...

I just told some people I talk to online that Artest really said he changed his mind and now apparently, I'm stupid.

Maybe if Artest had ever turned into a player like Bender, we wouldn't be in this situation, eh?

I mean Odom is like Bender, not Artest.

No, I don't want it true. It's just that you made it believable by making a quote of something that Donnie Walsh would actually say.

Unclebuck
12-14-2005, 03:36 PM
Donnie is on now. For real

DW was completely surprised by Ron's request. Saying he's at practice everyday and never had an inkling

DW says he agrees with Ron in that Ron won't be able to live down his past here.

DW admits he put up with too mch from Ron, but he says it has worked for other layers in the past especially younger players

Unclebuck

DW, "it is not like I'm mad at him, I'm sad for him"

Wait, what? You confused me btown.

I'll explain:

When he said, Maybe if Artest had ever turned into a player like Bender, we wouldn't be in this situation, eh?

He meant: If Artest had turned into a high Toronto Draft pick (Bender) in 2004 he'd be Chris Bosh who Toronto would have traded to the Pacers after drafting him.

Hope that clears it up.

I hope if Artest does get traded " WHICH HE WILL " then a good talent comes towards us which means a good player...

Someone like Rashard Lewis atleast but my hope is Lamar Odom... but I'm hopeful Walsh will get something good out of the trade and we won't get ripped off.

This was what I expected all along. That after a few days of getting attention he would want things back to normal.

I still can't fully embrace that Ron has played his last game here. If the Pacers went through all that other crap, which is more serious than this incident, then they will manage this. At least that i how I feel, even though it really sounds like Ron has lost Donnie and he is going to be traded.

Would it make you feel better if we brought back Al for Ron?

I'm not going to have to call the Burlington Coat Factory when Ron is traded, am I?

That is a good sign. Just a few days away from making a good trade. If he hadn't gotten a good deal offered to him he would not be happy and would be talking about how Ron betrayed the team. Good spirits+good trade.

Dja catch that he said "IF that's they way we decide we want to go" right after that?

Meaning....draft picks/expiring contracts can be in play too.

While I would love to have Al back, Austin is playing real well. If bringing Al back would throw Austin back into being a marginal player then I wouldn't do it, and it still isn't funny.

I would imagine Al would play primarily at the 3.

And it's still VERY funny.

I think the "young prospects" line is a smokescreen. It's not like we have a bunch of old guys on our team and we're looking to rebuild in the next 2-3 years. All it really does is make our apparent interest in guys like Lewis, Odom, and Peja appear to be less so that the respective teams don't try to take us to the cleaners. You can bet that we'll end up with a good, fairly young player, but it will probably take a few days, with Donnie turning down several lowball deals, meanwhile turning up the pressure on other teams to make a good offer NOW to get their hands on Artest.

So is that all he said?

I haven't read this whole thread, but allow me to paraphrase what Donnie said.

Walsh is upbeat, and enthusiastic about the offers coming in. His phone has been ringing incessantly. He wanted to ensure that those who don't know alot about trades and how they are brought about, that it would not be an overnight deal. He emphasized that fans patrons, et al, be patient, because it might take time to get what they feel he is worth.

He reiterated that Ron Ron had plenty of opportunities to speak with either himself or Larry Bird.

He said he hadn't tried to contact Ronnie since speaking with him on Monday, and that he hadn't tried to change his mind, and that Ron hadn't contacted him to tell him of a change of heart.

Overall Donnie sounded upbeat, and really just ready to move on and see what the team could put together in a trade. Not dwelling on what could have beens. He's gettin on with the business of basketball, and that was comforting to know he was over it.

Stephen A. Smith said that the Pacers have gotten calls from 17 teams. Not just one or two.

Yeah, this guy also said earlier when he had Artest on his little show that the Pacers had zero chance of a title without Artest ... ZERO.

These ESPN guys are funny, one day Artest is a top 15 player, next he is a top ten, now I think they have him up to top 5 ... LOL. You watch, if Ron ends up in a Lakers uniform he'll suddenly be a media darling and the next MJ!
