View Full Version : Compare/Contrast Tim/Anthony

I began to think about this a few days ago. What if we had re-signed Tim Hardaway instead of signing Anthony Johnson? Would we have been better off or the same? In 10 (14 counting the playoffs) games with the Pacers last season, Tim averaged almost the same type of statistics that Anthony has had this season, with much less minutes played.

Here's the question:

Would you have rather signed Tim instead of Anthony (assuming Tim stayed as healthy as AJ) or kept things the way they were?

Looking at these statistics, and assuming Tim would have been healthy throughout the season, I would choose Hardaway over Johnson, but I can't blame the Pacers for not choosing Tim, which brings another question to my mind: Was Tim still pursuing to continue his NBA career?

Tim's stats are a very poor indicator of his play.

When he played well, he's still a great clutch-shooting PG. But his knees are so bad that he could only play effectively about once every two weeks.

No way he lasts a full season for the blue & gold. If you take a five game streak of 18 - 0 - 2 - 3 - 2 you get an average of 5 ppg, but you don't have a backup that you can count on for 5 ppg.

I've loved Tim since the Run TMC days. I know UB hates this, but I loved those old, classic battles between Nellie's Warriors and Bo Hill's Pacers. Screw the defense if you can win 136 - 130.

(I know, I know, we were usually the '130'). :(
