The highways jammed with broken heros on a last chance power try.

Sounds like the Pistons to me.

Someone should 'fess up to the Wreck on the Highway vote.

Contrary to what you're all thinking, it wasn't me.

I picked 'Don't Look Back'

I think they shouldn't waste any energy looking back on what happened last season as long as they learned a lesson from it, and also shouldn't look back now that they're finally moving on without relying on Reggie to bail them out.

It's sad that such good Pacers posts are relegated to the shoutbox.......

Mansion on the Hill

At night my daddy'd take me and we'd ride
Through the streets of a town so silent and still
Park on a back road along the highway side
Look up at that mansion on the hill

There ain't no storybook story
There's no never-ending song
Our happily ever after Darlin'
Forever come and gone
I'm movin' on
If I'm gonna believe
I'll put my faith
Darlin' in you

I'm countin' on a miracle
Baby I'm countin' on a miracle
Darlin' I'm countin' on a miracle
To come through

I go a wham, bam, thank you ma'am, god damn, c'mon man
You're a gone dead train rumblin' down this track
I got your neck in the noose and I don't give a damn, Jack
I'm on that long lost highway of the big payback

There's a code of silence that we don't dare speak
There's a wall between us and the river's deep
We keep pretending that there's nothing wrong
But there's a code of silence and it can't go on

Is the truth so elusive, so elusive you see
that it ain't enough baby
To bridge the distance between you and me
There's a list of grievance 10 miles long
There's a code of silence and it can't go on

Well you walk with your eyes open
But your lips they remain sealed
While the promises we made are broken
Beneath the truth we fear to reveal
Now I need to know now darlin'
I need to know what's goin' on so c'mon c'mon c'mon....

There's a code of silence that we don't dare speak
There's a wall between and the river's deep
We keep pretending that there's nothing wrong
But there's a code of silence and it can't go on

I listened to Code of Silence as I walked home for the train at 10:30pm. I'm going to have to leave the office much earlier if I ever want to see another basketball game.

How's this for butchering a Springsteen lyric:

++++++++

Rick Carlisle was a cautious man of the road
He walked lookin' over his shoulder and remained faithful to its code
When something caught his eye he'd measure his need
And then very carefully he'd proceed

Rick met a young rookie in the early days of September
It was there in her arms he let his cautiousness slip away
In their lovers twilight as the evening sky grew dim
He'd lay back in her arms and laugh at what had happened to him

On his right hand Rick tattooed the word team and on his left hand was the word defense
And in which hand he held his fate was never clear
Come Indiana winter he took his young lover for his bride
And with his own hands built a great fieldhouse down by the riverside

Now Rick was an honest man he wanted to do what was right
He worked hard to fill their lives with happy days and basketball at night
Alone on his knees in the darkness for steadiness he'd pray
For he knew in a restless heart the seed of betrayal lay

One night Rick awoke from a terrible dream callin' his rookie's name
She lay breathing beside him in a peaceful sleep, a thousand miles away
He got dressed in the moonlight and down to the highway he strode
When he got there he didn't find nothing but road

Rick felt a coldness rise up inside him that he couldn't name
Just as the words tattooed 'cross his knuckles he knew would always remain
At their bedside he brushed the hair from his wife's face as the moon shone on her skin so white
Filling their room with the beauty of God's fallen light

How's this for butchering a Springsteen lyric:

Uh....poor?........... ............:-p

Warning - this is a parody......No ill will is meant toward any player.......

Seen a man standin' over a Pistons fan at the Palace in the stands
He's lookin' down kinda puzzled pokin' that fan with his fist
Got his jersey soaked with beer, he's standing up in Section 31
Like if he fought there long enough that fan'd get up and run
Struck me kinda funny seem kinda funny sir to me
Still at the end of every hard earned day people find some reason to believe

Now Unclebuck loved Ronnie with a love mean and true
He said "Ronnie I'll watch you play every day and write good posts about you"
One day Ron up and left him and ever since that
He waits down at the end of that baseline for young Ronnie to come back
Struck me kinda funny seemed kind of funny sir to me
How at the end of every hard earned day people find some reason to believe

Take Jonny to the doctor, Dan Dyrek they called him
Rub him on the knees, take away little Jonny's pain
On a whitewashed new court, Scot Pollard hurts his left leg
They take him to the locker room and over him they pray
Lord won't you tell us tell us what does it mean
Still at the end of every hard earned day people find some reason to believe

The team all gathers down at the airport.
Carlisle stands with his whiteboard, Bird stands watchin' from the side
The plane's all gone, the sun sets behind a weepin' willow tree
Bird stands alone and watches the river rush on so effortlessly
Wonderin' where can his Ronnie be
Still at the end of every hard earned day people find some reason to believe
