I don't have MySpace, but I do have Xanga!.

My Xanga! (http://www.xanga.com/bri_carty)

I'd love to make my site more "Pacer-like", but it looks stupid when I try the colors. I can't make a good one, so I really won't try.

Wow UB, I wouldnt expect such a ignorant statement to come from someone as smart as you.

Now I have gotten rid of my myspace, and I do hate it, but to try to say that the only thing that people use myspace for is to pick up underage kids is just plain sad.

Sure, whenever you get a community over XXXX thousand people, esp. on the internet, you are bound to have some freaks that want to abuse the system, but there are just as many that do not.

I have plenty of friends who are in college who have a myspace and never have, nor do they intend to pick up any males or females from it, and I have plenty of co-workers who have a myspace simply because they are not in college and cant get facebook.

Okay, I'm going to tear you a new one about a pet peeve of mine.

Putting words in someone's mouth.

UB did not say the only thing myspace is for is to pick up underage kids.

What he said was:

"Isn't that the place where the pervs try to pick up underage girls and underage boys"

Fact is that he's right. It is. But he didn't say that's all it is. He had a valid question, but he didn't say that is ALL it was for.

I'm giving you a hard time va just to make a point and I'm sure you know I don't intend any hard feelings and I hope I don't cause any, but you hit on a real pet peeve of mine.

The english language, although contradictory at times can be a such a precise tool to make a point. The thing I always say to people is "Respond to what I said, not what you THINK I said. I say exactly what I mean."

Alright, va, sorry for making you my whipping boy, but when people do that it drives me crazy.

People do that at the grocery store too. Or a department store.

But I doubt anyone's automatic reaction when asked about either of those places is, "Isn't that a place where pedophiles go to party?".

Definitely, I know we've been using it when looking at potential candiates (not as an official tool, but still try it nonetheless).

These people need to realize that doing a kegstand while snorting coke and giving a reach around to an albino midget in heat may have been fun after that 25th drink, but putting that picture up is not going to help you get that job when 10% of the people in your office have facebook access and use it to look at you and what you want people to think you're like.

Yeah, by g/f goes to IU and in one of her accounting classes her grad assistant, ran a search for everyone in that class then read the most embarassing things from people's profiles for an entire class period. She said people were rolling down the aisles laughing so hard.

A lot of the people had wall writings about how bad that assistant was, and all the things they'd like to say to him.

Priceless.

Btown is mocking me about an incident that happened about a year ago. I walked out to my car one morning and there was some college kid sleeping it off in my car, which I had left unlocked. Pedophile Less Interested The More He Views 13-Year-Old's MySpace Profile

March 17, 2006 | Issue 42•12

LONGVIEW, TX—Area pedophile Dwight Sanderson said Monday that his interest in getting to know and eventually meeting MySpace.com member "Courtneee" has significantly declined after a closer read of the "lame" hobbies and "self-involved" blog entries on the 13-year-old's profile.
Enlarge ImagePedophile

Pedophile Dwight Sanderson plods through the tedious details of 13-year-old Courtneee's profile.

According to Sanderson, 47, Courtneee's picture caught his eye while he was searching the Judson Middle School MySpace community and found her "Gemini_diva" page.

"At first, she seemed like my type of girl—innocent-looking, single, and, best of all, she lives right nearby," he said.

Sanderson continued: "Her profile seemed very enticing at first. She plays softball in the same park that I always hang around in. But right before I was going to leave her a private message, I decided to check out her latest blog post."

He said the 1,500-word entry "droned on and on" about everything from dealing with her great-grandmother's death last year to hopes for her new job as class treasurer.

"I'm looking for a cell-phone number and a home address, not your life story," he said.

Though admittedly discouraged, Sanderson, who classifies himself as "not very picky," said he still hoped that Courtneee could play a small, fleeting part in his future.

"I'm an optimist, even though I've been burned by girls like Courtneee in the past. You think you know everything about them—their dark secrets, their heroes, their class schedule—but they end up betraying your confidence and talking about your relationship behind your back to any authority figure who'll listen," Sanderson said.

Sanderson pointed out several other "red flags" in Courtneee's profile, including "pathetic, almost obsessive" blog entries about her ex-crush, the fact that her "Interests and Personality" section mentions that she might want to have children someday, and her terrible taste in movies.

"I'm used to getting involved with younger, less mature women, but she's got the sense of humor of an 8-year-old," Sanderson said. "I can't bring myself to pretend to like 50 First Dates, even to establish a base of shared interests, build rapport, and eventually earn her complete trust."

"Also, one of her friends left a recent comment accusing her of being a 'big-mouth who likes to spread rumors,'" Sanderson added. "I can't tell you how big a turnoff that is for me."

According to Sanderson, the most discouraging revelation came when he viewed Courtneee's "More Pics" section, in which she reportedly looks "way older" than she does in her featured front-page photo.

"When I saw the other pictures, I was like, 'How old is this girl, 15?'" Sanderson said. "In these pictures, she had braces, acne, noticeable breasts—nothing like the baby-faced little girl she appeared to be on her main page. She probably hasn't updated that picture in a year and a half."

Though he made a legally binding promise to himself and law-enforcement officials that he would never pursue another relationship like this, Sanderson says he nonetheless plans to "give it a shot."

"Internet dating can be risky," he said, "but at my age, and their age, it's really the only way."

I actually found a pic I was willing to upload so my profile had a photo to go with it, but my upload isn't working. And I'm pretty sure it's the site's fault. When you finish uploading it takes you to a URL with the "www" missing (so it's ".whatever.com/whatever" instead of "www.whatever.com/whatever"). I hope they fix that soon.

Is it only happening to me, or are others having trouble?

Right now I have a request from Noah T. and I don't know who that is.

Dont like Myspace, the pages seem to cluttered with useless ads and other crap. I do have a facebook account, though I am attempting to stay off of it as much as possible.

I have an idea though, instead of everyone PMing each other there RL names to do friend requests, why doesnt someone just start a "PD Members" group and everyone can join that instead and find each other that way.

EDIT: Reading about employers using Facebook scared the crap out of me. Im in the middle of a full-on search for an internship for this summer so maybe I should make my account private, though I guess I do keep mine pretty clean.

Btw, how are employers getting on facebook, dont you have to have a collge domain email to register for facebook still?

Yes, make it private if you're in the job/intership search.

They're getting on because people like me, who just graduated, are giving them access to it. So .

I don't if any of you around here remember this story, but I was told about it by mouth....anyway...

Ellsworth, the sheriff down here in Vanderburg (sp?) county, and is now running for US Senate, his daughter had pictures of herself with drinks and all that stuff on her facebook. The university saw it, and suspended her for a few days or something like that. She goes to IU, as well. So ya, put your **** on private, I did.

Obviously very bored, but was doing some searches on Facebook for some college NCAA players and came up with a couple...Joakim Noah and Marcus Williams were 2. I'm sure there are many more but I have to get back to researching a paper.

I have a couple players as friends.

Greg Brunner from Iowa.

Sheldon Williams and Lee Melconi from Duke.

Hmm I know there's more, but I can't seem to remember.

I do know I have Mike Birbiglia on there as well.

Have you met those guys, and are friends with them? Or know them through buddies of yours? Or did you find them like me, but took the leap of faith and clicked "add to friends" to see if they'd add you too? Hah...j/k.

How do you know Sheldon? Any chance we can get him here in a Pacers uniform next year? :p

Took the blind leap of faith. LOL Sheldon has like 3000+ friends.

It's amazing what you'll do when you're completely bored, and just trying to pass the time.

OH YEAH! Plus I'm friends with Jenn Sterger "FSU Cowgirl."

Alright - I'm going with that leap of faith with Sheldon...one of my fav's during the tournament.

It's Canada. He has to wait in line for 7 weeks just to take the same below-average final as everyone else.

Yeah - finals already. This year went by extremely fast; probably because I was so busy. Graduating after this year though, so that's something to look forward to.
