Well, Jonathan Bender made it a whopping 2 games before he had to sit one out due to soreness in his knee. I've seen a lot of people on here who are still optimistic that he's just playing it safe. When will that state of mind change to "he's chronically injured, a la Special K"? Right now, I'm very dubious of his health. He's already giving us the "game to game" line he dropped last year, right before the missed the season. If he misses our next preseason game, or plays but is obviously is restricted in what he can do, I say we cut him with the injured player clause ASAP.

Peck is saying that his situation is becoming more and more like Rik Smits, meaning, whenever he has a good game its because he is healthy. Yet when he sucks, its because of his knees.

This makes sense when you consider how many years this guy has been hyped as the single greatest basketball player in the history of the universe....in practice. At this point the Pacers and Bender can not afford to say that he is playing poorly due to lack of skill, it has to be an injury.

However lets say that this is not true, and his knees are too sore to play. Some of us will always question his heart and willingness to play with any pain. Others will believe that he is truly in too much pain to play.

In either case the man is not cut out to play NBA basketball, mentally or physically. If he goes through another year like the past two, then he needs to just retire. The Pacers will be too proud to cut him, and they won't want to serve him the indignity, so I hope that Bender will just retire.

However the understory to all of this is that if Bender would have learned to become a basketball player thats primary weapon isn't athleticism this would not have been a problem.

Al Harrington blew out his knee, he has never got to the point where he'll say that his knee still doesn't hurt when he plays. And without question, he is not and never will be the type of athlete he was before the knee injury. Still he can be a very productive player in this league.

Bender should have spent the past few years adapting his game to be a different type of player. Doing this would have most likely squelched any dreams of being a "star," but it would have allowed him to be an effective player with or without knee pain. To his own fault he has not done this, and this is why he cannot perform in this league consistently.

Too be fair this could just be a case of the coaching staff not playing rather than he couldn't. Its is preseason after all.

And this gives them a chance to give Granger and Sarunas time to get used to the NBA. Time for Artest to get conditioned. And to see who gets #15 Walker or Snap

The #15 spot is going to Walker. It has too, with Pollard down, Jeff gone till December, and Harrison down indefinitely, we need Walker.

Its too bad, because Hunter and Brown are both good players that will make someone's team. I also think higher of Walker than most.

Jeff Down till december when did this happen. I thought he was just supposed to be iffy about the beginning of the season.

And Pollards injury will be better in a week. JO Could play if we needed him.

But Yeah Harrison is down till they discover the problem. But with the Way Cro has been Playing. And IF bender is just being held out by the coaching staff. They could decide the the talented youth could be worth the investment.

Specially since he can be sent down to get playing time in the NBDL. And next season if we can hold onto Freddie, and we let Gill walk. Snap can step in.

I don't think anyone knows when Foster will be back, as he should have been fine by now. He has not seemed to be able to over come these hip problems, and they will most likely plague him all year.

Pollard will be back next week, then he'll play two games and his back will flare up and he'll be forced to miss another 3 games. This is not going to change, it is just the fact of age. We cannot rely on him to be there night in, and night out.

Harrison, is out indefinitely and even when he gets back he has too work on staying out of foul trouble or he'll see less time than Pollard. Harrison is the big x-factor this season, IMO. We need him to be successfull, but he has a way to go.

Croshere, like always, will be very dependable. JO can play center, but is not as effective. The more big bodies the better to go against the Heat and Pistons. The last thing we need is a fourth string pt guard who will never see the floor, and will provide us with nothing against the upper tier teams in the playoffs.

It's 3am. I like changing people's names when I quote them.

It's how I roll.

Oh, I see. Well hell its 2am here, and I have to get up in 5 hrs to go festival shopping. Yippee!

Word.

Somehow, festival shopping doesn't fit in well here. Kind of like claiming that you live in the hood when you have a huge house in Carmel.

Off topic? I digress.

I used to be a nerd
Grew up in the suburbs
Nothing there ever went wrong
I made it up in this song

I talk about the hood
I say stuff like it's all good
Tell people I'm down with all the cool kids downtown
When I've never even been there

How many people wanna kick some ***?
I do I do
And how many people sick of holding it back?
I am
Well I am too

If Bender can make it through this season and play even 50% of the games, I'll be in a state of shock.

yo yo yo DD

I have this thing I dowhere I turn my hat backw2ord and cross my arm/hand at a 45 in front of me and start rappin and bouncin...anyway you get the drill. Geezer Jr and Geezerette are soooooooo afraid I'll do it in public (read that as when anyway they might remotely know is in the vicinity).

I had a vision last night. 3 white guys like me...short, fat, white-haired, and OLD...wearing their baggy pants (like old men have ALWAYS done) and suspenders. Open shirts and chains (like Guido has always done)...rappin.

(all this in a FUN non-derogatory way..........just pointing out how baggy clothes aren't owned exclusively by the young and what they will someday morph into)

Dave what the hell are you talking bout. Scot is only 30. Unless this is a sereious injury. Which it doesn't seem to be, It shouldn't affect him. He tweaked his back last year and never let it heal.

Its not like last year he had the luxury of sitting on the bench until he healed completely. Hes only 30 and his back had time to heal. Lets think before we post K.

Why don't you ask MJB how long Jeff will be down? He replies to questions regarding the Sonics roster, surely he will be able answer your question.

Yes, let's.

Considering in the 2002-03 season Pollard had a stress fracture of his back and missed 60 games and has never been the same player since, people really should think before they post.

Even if you use a smiley to indicate humor, some people still go nuts for no reason.

Amen to that, my friend. Certain people should lighten up. We are discussing the Pacers, not politics or oil prices.
