More Photos (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/gallery)</td> </tr> </tbody></table> </td> </tr> </tbody></table> </td> </tr> </tbody></table> INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- The Indiana Pacers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/ind/) are ready to open the preseason with most of their regular lineup.

Tuesday's game at New Jersey will be the first for Ron Artest (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3339/) since the infamous brawl with Detroit Pistons (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/det/) fans last November. He was suspended for the final 73 games of the regular season and the playoffs. Stephen Jackson (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3210/) missed 30 games and Jermaine O'Neal (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3120/) was suspended for 15 games for their roles in the brawl.

Nagging injuries could keep O'Neal, Danny Granger (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3943/) and David Harrison (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3846/) out of the preseason opener, and Jeff Foster (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3344/) will miss the game due to a sore right hip.

With the suspensions behind them, the Pacers will be trying to refine their chemistry and start winning skeptical fans back. Indiana was expected to contend for the NBA title last season, but wound up 44-38 and lost to Detroit in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

The Pacers feel they owe their fans something after what happened last season.

``There's a lot of fans in this state that are on the ropes as far as which way they want to go,'' O'Neal said.

The Pacers still have the core of the team that went 61-21 two years ago, except for the retired Reggie Miller (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/231/). With O'Neal at power forward, Artest at small forward and Jackson at shooting guard, three starting spots are virtual locks.

Perhaps the most compelling battle for playing time will be at point guard. Jamaal Tinsley (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3528/) is the returning starter, but the Pacers signed Lithuanian Euroleague star Sarunas Jasikevicius (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3996/) in the offseason. TPTB traipsed around the globe and gave him big money in hopes that he will supplant Tinsley. If he doesn't it will be viewed as a huge failure.

Tinsley averaged a career-high 15.4 points and 6.4 assists per game last season, but played just 40 games due to injuries.

Jasikevicius won three championships in seven years one of the world's most competitive leagues. O'Neal already has called him a player the Pacers can trust in clutch situations.

Anthony Johnson (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3207/) also could be a factor. He stepped in at the point when Tinsley was out and averaged 6.1 assists.

At center, Harrison, Foster and Scot Pollard (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3189/) are trying to round out the lineup. Pollard will start against the Nets while Foster nurses a sore right hip and Harrison fights through sore ribs. Harrison missed most of last season after having surgery on his left knee, but he came back to average 14.8 points in the Minnesota Summer League.

The Pacers' depth could be a strength, considering the reserves tied the starters in a scrimmage Sunday.

Granger, the team's first-round draft pick, could get his first chance in a game on Tuesday. He was the second-leading scorer in the scrimmage, but has a sprained right ankle that has him listed as doubtful on the team's injury report.

Tinsley said Granger and Jasikevicius performed well during training camp.

``They fit in pretty good,'' he said. ``It's a new system for them, a new process, but they're catching on quickly.''

Pacers to open preseason fully loaded

.....

Yeah, really a full compliment.

I was just starting to get excited about tomorrow too, but now I STILL don't get to see Granger play.

Did anything happen at Fan Jam that could have caused a little bruise or something along those lines?

If not, then I sure would like to find out about these things earlier than the day before for once.

Don't like to hear that Granger is on the injury list again so soon. Hopefully he's not sitting next to Bender this season in street clothes.

It's preseason .... I'm sure those guys would play if it was the regular season. It's a long year. No need to ruin a player over preseason.

I wish they would elaborate more. I'm not expecting the X-Rays be posted but a little info would be nice.

The Pacers season doesn't start until we hear those golden words......"Nagging injuries could keep BLAH BLAH BLAH from playing...."

Is anyone really surprised?

1/2 of me is....1/2 of me isn't. The 1/2 that is surprised is surprised because I kept on hearing that we would be healthy. The other 1/2 of me isn't surprised......cuz this is the Pacers.

Can we not have 1 FRICKIN season without any type of "nagging" injuries?

I'm sure all teams have nagging injuries, especially things in preseason where they take even more caution.... BUT do other teams get the "We're all perfectly healthy and ready to roll" articles leading up to camp and into the initial days when that is obviously not the case?

Granger 'could' be a new injury because nothing has been said about it previously (unless it turns out to be his surgically repaired knee).

Haha, a huge failure, eh? Looks like someone spun the wheel and ended up having to do a story on the Pacers.

Granger Joins Growing List Of Injured

By Conrad Brunner | Oct. 11, 2005
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Carlisle
Now that the games are about to begin, the topic of experimenting with 6-7, 270-pound Ron Artest at power forward during the preseason was broached with Coach Rick Carlisle.
"You might see him at the center spot (tonight)," he said.

The answer prompted chuckles from the media gathered around the Pacers coach. Turns out, he wasn't joking.

"Really," he said. "That's where we are right now."

Granger

The Pacers could be without four key members of the front-line rotation when they begin preseason play tonight in New Jersey (8:00, WIBC AM-1070). Rookie forward Danny Granger, who scored 10 points in the team's intrasquad scrimmage Sunday, suffered a sprained ankle in practice Monday and joined the growing list of injured. It already included Jermaine O'Neal (bruised right thigh), David Harrison (bothered by a mysterious pain in his right side) and Jeff Foster (recovering from his second hip surgery in two years).

It all adds up to a healthy audition for free agent forwards Samaki Walker and Damone Brown, NBA veterans trying to crack the Pacers' roster, as well as some lineup and rotation improvisation for Carlisle. Scot Pollard likely will start at center. If O'Neal can't play – and he said Monday he'd like to try – Walker, Jonathan Bender or Austin Croshere could start at power forward.

"In training camp, you're going to have some guys get dinged-up," said Carlisle. "That's a part of it. We're fortunate. We've got one of the deepest camps we've ever had here in terms of our talent pools we've got a lot of other guys that are capable."

O'Neal

O'Neal, who took a knee to the thigh in Saturday's practice and sat out Sunday's FanJam scrimmage, said he was going to New Jersey with the intention of playing.

"I'm all right," he said Monday. "You just want to make sure everything's right, make sure I'm ready to go. I feel better than I felt yesterday and I'm pretty sure I'm going to feel better tomorrow than I do today. So I'm going to give it what I can give it. I look forward to playing tomorrow. My goal is to play.

"From the training staff's and the coaching staff's perspective, it's the preseason and they don't want to chance it, but I'm all right."

Harrison

Harrison said his pain "felt like someone's stabbing me," but doctors have yet to determine its cause.

"They've ruled out a lot of things," he said. "I get out there and go as hard as I can until I can't move anymore."

Granger had to be assisted from the floor to the locker room after spraining his ankle Monday afternoon in Conseco Fieldhouse. He, O'Neal and Harrison are all listed as doubtful, while Foster definitely will not play.

That article is a joke, seems more like something a fan would write.

Every team has injuries every year and every preseason. Nagging type injuries or more severe injuries. It always happens. And the injury rate for rookies in their first training camp is remarkably high.

Still not sure about the DirecTV thing in Indy. Channel 754 says it's subject to blackout in "parts of NJ and Indianapolis." It's also going to be on YES, channel 622 if you have the sports pack.

Actually I think that YES stays open till the regular season starts. Seems that it did last year.

There is no such thing as a healthy team. Come February Jamaal or someone is going to get a head cold and pass it to his teammates. I certainly hope flu shots was a part of the preseason physicals.
