Has anybody seen this guy kick off? Is he good?

I haven't seen any of the games this preseason, but I found this in the "Manning OK" article son Colts.com...

Rookie kicker Dave Rayner, selected in the sixth round of last April’s NFL Draft, had his most effective game of the preseason kicking off against Denver Saturday, kicking off four times in the first half.

Three of his kicks, going seven, six and five yards deep in the end zone. Each kick produced a touchback. His other first-half kick traveled to the 4.

“Dave kicked it well,” Dungy said. “He relaxed and kicked it like we feel like he can kick. Now, he’s got the true test – doing it at sea level, outdoors. That’s what should happen, when you’re kicking at altitude, that’s how you should kick the ball. He did.”

Awesome. I am sick of opposing teams starting every series at the 30. But like Dungy said, hopefully he can do it at sea level.

Yep and looks like we finally have some good hard hitters on special teams if they can stay consistent enough..

Some day I hope we have either a PK or punter who can kick off, Vandy is great at FG's but he sucks at the kickoff. Carrying a kickoff specialist kinda bothers me alot.

I wanna see how he kicks tomarrow in Cincy before I decide if he's worth keeping. If he can get most or all in the endzone or very close than I would consider keeping him if I were Polian. If he struggles let him go.

So what's the verdict?

Well I've seen two games this year. One against the Bears, and the other against the Broncos.

The game against the Bears the guy sucked. I was cursing the fact that the Colts can't find a guy who can kick it past the 10.

The game against the Broncos the guy ruled. I was rejoicing the fact that the Colts found a guy who can kick a touchback.

So who knows, I'm sure he'll start the season off poorly due to jitters. However he'll surely get better.

I only saw his first kickoff yesterday (actually 2 cuz of a penelty) and both went to the 5. It's going to be intresting to see if they decide to use a roster spot on him.

I haven't watched real closely, but from what I've seen, he consistently gets it inside the 5 or 10, which, his protestations not withstanding, is much better than Vandy does.

He is much better at kicking off than Vandy, but i'm still not sure it's worth keeping a 3rd kicker unless he can consistlenty get it to the endzone everytime.

He made the team. Lets see if they keep him now.
