I wasn't really qualified to hate any of them being between the ages of 5 and 7.

Same

Mommy wouldn't let me watch them...she said they were "naughty boys"

I was leaning towards "all of them equally" but that's a copout. Laimbeer, Rodman and Zeke at least were skilled basketball players. Mahorn was just a punk@$$ thug. If he wasn't 6'9" and chiseled from stone, he probably would have been mugger or a bank robber.

I will say this, however, Joe D. has about as much class as anyone in the history of the NBA. I always thought "Joe D. and the Jerks" was a better nickname than "Bad Boys", just to save Joe's good name.

I loved that team. They might not have been as skilled as the Celts or Lakers or Bulls in their prime. But I put my money on the bad boys vs ANY team at ANY time in NBA History after the 3pt line.

The Pistons were the classic underdogs of the 80's. They didn't havea media darling like Bird, Magic or MJ, that scored 30 and got every whistle. They didn't have a tradition of lucking out like Boston, and didn't play in big markets like Chicago or LA. Yet, unlike the other 20 spineless franchises in the NBA, the stood UP to them. They fought the Celtics when everyone else ran scared. They roughed up Jordan when nobody else would touch him. They gave a :finger: to Magic when everybody else kissed his ***.

IMO, the Pistons took a team of cast-offs and made them a winner when conventional wisdom said offense and legends won championships. Hate them or love them, you HAVE to respect them. I figured Indiana, of all places, would understand that.

BTW- my lasting memory of the Pacers in that era was Dick Versace, who tried to play the "I know all your plays" card in the first round, and then as it became clear that he was going to get swept, he took it out on the gatorade bucket by beating it sensless on the sidelines.....

Rick Mahorn wasnt talented yeah, but people forget he was SMART. You know that move where you let a bigger player back you down, and all of a sudden you "pull the chair" out and the player falls off balance and hits the floor? Mahorn invented that move.

Maybe it is different for me but I was a Pistons fan before I was a Pacers fan heck before I even really knew there was a team i Indiana.

I grew up in Northern Indiana and there were a lot more Pistons fans here than Pacers. Of course even today I would say it is about 60/40 in favor of the Pacers. So I certainly never hated them they were the heroes they had Isiah.

I'll give you that all of those guys were crafty. I think those guys were hated in Indiana in particular because a lot of us tend to pride ourselves in "old school basketball fundamentals" and to a lesser extent "respecting the rules and traditions of the game."

The Pistons were definetely set on forcing the officials to adapt to thier game, where they could be competitive, instead of playint within the established rules, norms and traditions while losing to the Lakers, Bulls and Sixers. I'll give them credit for trying - I'm always more disappointed that the league and its officials caved in and didn't uphold Dr. Naismith's vision of the game of basketball by deciding to disqualify all the Pistons players with six fouls in the first quarter of every game.

To me, its similar to the idea that if the USA decided its soccer team should pick up and advance the ball with thier hands, figuring that if they did it every play the officials would eventually quit calling it a violation. When the USA wins a world cup playing that way, the people of Brazil who care passionately about soccer's traditions probably won't consider them to be a good team.

As a refresher, Dr. Naismith's rule #5 says: "No shouldering, holding, pushing, tripping, or striking in any way the person of an opponent shall be allowed; the first infringement of the rule by any player shall count as a foul, the second shall disqualify him until the next goal is made, or if there was evident intent to injure the person, for the whole game, no substitute allowed."

Source: Naismith Hall of Fame website: http://naismithmuseum.com/Autoweb/main_faq.php

Having said all that, Isiah and Joe should be credited for having the hearts of champions - they should have been the starting backcourt for an NBA champion team that didn't have to rely on all the thuggery. And for as much as I didn't like Isiah the pro basketball player or coach, the only cheap shot I ever saw him deliver was at Pooh Richardson when Pooh was torching him during Isiah's last year. (now that's an insult when Pooh was torching anybody in the league...)

Jay, I respect you "purist" way of looking at basketball, but you're a TAD out of line.

Nasmith also didn't allow for dribbling either. I think the entire movie of "Hoosiers" should be labeled as a fraud because they dribbled what, every game?

I think the 3-pointer should never have been introduced, meaning Reggie Miller should be looked at as "just another good player."

No, I think the NASMITH rules should apply only, you're right :unimpressed:

The Pistons have gotten a TON of FTs, but overlooked in this quarter is that they have hit 12 of their last 15 shots.....

If Chauncey and Rip hit their FTs, this is a 1-point game.

Hicks, funny story about that foul, the SECOND Ron came into the game Bill Laimbeer said, "If he guards Rip, he's getting #3 on the first play." I hope someone else hear heard that. JO played great with 5 against the Nets, so I'm not really afraid for him, Ron is taken more or less out of the game by the refs, looks like he is scared to even lift a finger (the hurt one)

Reg and JO will get us this game, though I think it will get closer near the end.

We are the best anyway!

Go Pacers!

I fail to see why we are shooting so much while he has the game he has!

REGGIE! (nice work Tins)

(that is why he is showing)

The sad thing on the replay is he wasnt even touched, lol

Reggie did one of his better acting jobs, but damn, it wasnt THAT impressive.....

To be fair, On the next play Ben Wallce does the exact same thing......

Long as lead is better than 4 after this quarter it was a good one. JO taking a break with 1 min left though..

Pathetic letting Campbell score so easy so many times here.

Artest with a tough shot, Corliss gets a T after it.

Crazy end there, really shoulda got a 2 but oh well. Up 9 after 3 not bad. Seems kinda like the last pacer piston game in reverse though. Hope they don't suddenly turn it on in the fourth.

Every team in this league (and a lot of their fans) think Ron's easy to bait into a T. They're idiots.

Even at his worst, Ron wasn't a T collecter. He was a Flagrant collecter. He just smashed random obejcts and fouled hard, he didn't do stupid **** like Corliss just did.

That was a good job hanging tough by the Pacers there. Could have been a much closer game, but our D is picking up again. Pollard is playing well again, btw. He just doesn't grab stats, but if you watch him he's doing a fine job.

One thing about Freddie....its not like he cannot shoot....I mean, his FT % is around 80, 3rd or 4th on this team, which is pretty good....

So this gives me confidence he will get his jumper going sometime in the future

I think Ron will turn on the tight defense some more in the 4th, he has survived the the 3d with 3 so can now play more freely, as can Tins when he comes back in, We are looking better then after 2 in all honesty.

I like it how they are hanging on instead of in

It now is dependant upon when JO, Reg and Tins come back in we might be in for a nice ending.
