First off, this is actually my first post here. I've been a lurker for awhile. I really enjoy everything I read, and it makes for a good time during lunch.

I didn't see this posted yet, so I apologize if I missed the original post.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Lingering soreness from an old knee injury will keep first-round pick Danny Granger from playing with the Indiana Pacers in the Minnesota summer league.

Granger tore the lateral meniscus in his left knee his senior year at New Mexico. He missed three games and had surgery.

Indiana coach Rick Carlisle said Granger's knee is about 80 percent, but the 6-foot-8 forward won't compete in contact drills until the knee is fully healthy.

"At this point, we've got to look at the big picture," Carlisle said. "You've got a guy who just turned 22, a guy who's going to be a terrific player in this league for the next decade. We can't put him in harm's way and try to rush him out there."

Granger, the 17th pick in last month's draft, said doctors told him he could play, but the Pacers chose to hold him out.

"I'm a little disappointed," he said, "but [the coaches] were telling me summer league didn't really matter. You know, I've signed and everything. I've got 82 games as a rookie."

Ooooh, forgot about that.

I had read this earlier, but am surprised no one had posted it. Good start to your decision to finally join this active, dysfunctional, and usually irrelevant online community.

It's only dysfuntional because you're here....

Thanks guys! I should put it all out there right now. I have absolutely no sources affiliated with the Pacers, so you're not going to get rumors. I also don't hate Pistons fans, and I like it when Ron Artest helps us win games. That's all you need to know right? I'm just a boring guy anxiously awaiting November.

Well, that cuts it. Everybody on the board hates you now.

Poor guy.

I'm optimistic because its too early to not be. I'm not saying he will, or he won't produce, because at this point all of the discussion is just another man's opinion. However, I'd clap for anyone wearing a Pacers uniform, doing the right things on the court.

"Ron and David Harrison have worked well together in practice," said Pacers assistant coach Dan Burke, who is coaching the summer league team with fellow assistant Chuck Person.

I think the phrase "sitting out the summer" is misleading.

The operative state is that he will be doing rehab on the knee so it will be in the best possible shape at season start.

Kind of like the Worlds and the Olympics, playing ball in the offseason has its downside when it comes to getting back in shape after injuries.

And, by the way, if Bender was willing to come back 2-4 weeks early from injuries I suspect we'd have finally seen his "breakout season" ...
