Wizards reportedly working deal with Lakers for Butler

LAS VEGAS - The Washington Wizards, stung by the loss of free agent Larry Hughes to the Cavaliers, may be able to stanch the sting.

Sources involved with the discussions say that the Wizards are talking to the Los Angeles Lakers about a sign-and-trade deal in which forward Kwame Brown, the top pick in the 2001 NBA draft, would go to the Lakers in exchange for swingman Caron Butler.

The Wizards have other options on the table that could bring them a much-needed big man in return for Brown, but Butler would make a lot of sense.

Butler has been available during most of his yearlong stay in Los Angeles. If the Lakers move him and, as expected, release forward Brian Grant in order to save money under the luxury tax, they would have precious little to show for their blockbuster trade of Shaquille O'Neal to Miami.

Damn......that would suck. The Lakers just stockpile young Big men.....I think that Brown will pull a JONeal once he leaves Washington. In DC.....he won't be the focus of attention for big-man prospects.....he can learn under the guidance of the Zen Master.

I wasn't aware that JO got the playing time in Portland that Kwame got in DC.

Kwame's issue isn't opportunity, it's stupidity.

Honestly, I'd rather have Butler.

Also JO was playing behind Wallace, Grant and Sabonis. Brown's behind Thomas and Haywood. Regardless of how much Peck likes Etan' JO would have cracked that line up.

Hmm, let me see. A big man who can jump through the roof or yet another slasher when you already have some of the best perimeter talent in the league. That sounds like a real tough one. Kwame doesn't have to score at all, just teach that boy how to rebound and defend and say hello to 50 wins.

Just teach Olowakandi to defend and rebound, and the TWolves would have won a championship.

Just teach Foster to his a three, and you have an all-star.

Just teach Ron to throw no-look passes, and you have an MVP.

Just teach Fred Jones to be 6'7," and he'll score 23ppg.

This is a complete who cares trade, but I think the Lakers have much more to gain out of this deal.

Washington really gains nothing as they do have Jarvis Hayes to fill in that spot.

The Lakers don't lose much and could gain a lot even if Brown becomes a 10 point, 8 rebound type player.

I follow that.

Just teach Foster to his a three, and you have an all-star.

... Starting to lose you.

Just teach Ron to throw no-look passes, and you have an MVP.

Ok, now I lost you. You'd have to teach Ron to pass in the first place before moving onto no-look passes. baby steps.

Just teach Fred Jones to be 6'7," and he'll score 23ppg.

Height does not equal better scoring. Teach Allen Iverson to be 8 ft and he'll score 50 ppg? No. Teach Fred Jones to be a better scorer and he'll score 23 ppg.

Teaching Kwame Brown to play defense and rebound is only slightly more realistic than hinking you can teach fred jones to grow 4 inches. Kwame's a bonafide idiot. He has the basketball IQ of my grandmother. He simply doesn't have the capacity fo learn the game.

Worst thing is, he's a quitter. He already quit on his team once, he'll do it again eventually.

I dont know why the Lakers are so hell bent on moving Butler, from what I saw of the Lakers last season he co-existed with Kobe alot better than Odom did. I guess they really want to test the Bulls/Jackson/Jordan/Pippen theory with Lakers/Jackson/Kobe/Odom.

Kwame isn't worth trading Butler for, IMO.

I don't know, i mean, just because Butler averages more points, rebounds  , steals, and assists doesn't make him a better player. I mean, Kwame DOES average 0.06 more blocks than Caron, and we all know how intimidating Caron is under the basket....

I really don't think Kwame's basketball IQ is all that low. I think it's an issue of confidence and motivation. He tears it up against JO, but that's because he's highly motivated to do so, being that he's considered to be a poor man's JO. I guess the Lakers feel that if they can get the #1 pick monkey off his back and get him to just start playing ball, he'll develop into a good player. Not an MVP candidate, but a solid player, which is what Caron Butler is, only this guy is taller.

Good move by both teams. Butler's a real talent, but he's superfluous playing with Kobe and Odom. If LA does this and gets Daniels, as rumored, they look pretty good.

By that token, does that mean your grandmother never learned how to speak past the 2nd-grade level either?

i've been reading the kwame brown-jermaine o'neal comparison a lot lately. however, i think kwame brown-jonathan bender is a more apt comparison

I would agree there. It's been mentioned before - Kwame's had the playing time and hasn't performed well consistantly.

:duh:

THAT was the idea I had the other day. Sometimes I want to type out 'ding ding' but it looks silly.
