View Full Version : This strange season prepared us for the end of the game

Imagine for a minute...you are on a huge shooting slump. You have given away almost all of your sizeable lead. You finally make a defensive stop only to give up the rebound and when the ball is swung, your star player fouls out of the game with 2:30 to go in the game and Detroit goes to the line to try to tie the game. What do you do now?

Well, we do what we have been doing all year. Finding a way to get points from players when we need it the most. Without JO, we found ways to win many games down the stretch of the season even in games we should not have. It prepared us for what we needed to do tonight.

Reggie took control of the offense, as he had done so well while JO was out. He found ways to get to the line twice...first time to tie and put the team up one and the second time to extend the lead to 3. Then, Jeff Foster steps up, breaks the press and draws the foul. This career 61% foul shooter calmly steps to the line and nails 2 free throws, just like he had done earlier in the season when the team needed him.

Just as importantly, they stepped up the defense at the end of the game. Dale Davis got a block, the pressure caused a couple of bad passes and they kept Detroit off of the line in the last 2 minutes.

If there is any positive about the stress of the season, it prepared us for playing at a high level without Jermaine O'Neal and at the end of the day, I believe we would not have won game 4 without the injuries we suffered all year.

Interesting and I'd say there is a lot of truth to your statements! We made the plays down the stretch.

exactly, there has been so much complaining about how we lost the big lead, BUT the last 1 min and a half was incredible, Miller Time at it's finest!
