View Full Version : Don't be late or you'll miss tipoff

Not sure if anyone else has noticed, but they have moved up all tipoff times 10 minutes. Gone are the day of the 7:00 PM game starting at 7:10 or 7:12, at least all TNT games games start right on time.
For example official tipoff is 7:02 for game #2.

I've notuced this for all the games. Not positive if ESPN will follow the same thing but I assume they will, so be aware that Fridays game will likely start right at 6:00.

Reason they have essentially moved the games up 10 minutes is because the games have been so long the first part of the second game is missed.

Sure it's not because the commentators suck so bad the tv execs can't stand to listen to em???

BTW, my memory may be wrong but I don't remember ever the playoffs starting at 6p.m. in Indiana for playoffs.

It is a bunch of B.S. if you ask me. It kills our crowd off because most of us cannot just be at an NBA game at 6 p.m. seeing as how most people don't get off till 5 & not everybody is lucky enough to be a lawyer or accountant that can just walk across the steet to the game.

Damn east coast people & thier stupid DST.

I hate these games being so early. I got tickets to game 3, and will probably be late, because I don't get off until 5.

Peck, they have had several 6:00 starts in past playoffs home and road. Anytime the second game on that same night is played in Texas for the most part (or central time zone) the first game is always on at 6:00 PM

Of course next season it won't be a problem (because of Daylight savings time) . Although next season people will complain about all the 8:00 PM starts for the first two rounds and the 9:00 starts for the ECF and NBA Finals

I'll get some criticism for this, but leave work early

It's the luck of the draw. Ideally, this series should be paired with the Spurs & Sonics series, so the games could start at 7:00 & 9:30 Eastern in Detroit & San Antonio, and 8:00 & 10:30 Eastern in Indiana & Seattle on weekdays. That's what's going to happen in Week 2 of the 2nd round.

If the Pacers and Mavericks both would have won Game 6 of their first round series, that's how it would have worked out. Once again, you'd rather have a game start at 6:00 local time than have a game end at midnight local time.

I guess Miami's fans haven't realized. Does anyone else notice how empty that place looks at the start of each game?

Absolutely.

You don't see that at the other 3 Eastern Conference venues. Pacer & Piston fans get there before the start, and you can't see the Wizard fans through the cloud of smoke that hovers there for the first 5 minutes.

I thought that was really funny. Everyone is so used to games starting 10 minutes after the time they are really supposed to start.

Yeah, I noticed that Mother's day.

Although, one time I think all their fans wore the same red shirts, so for a while I was thinking nearly half the arena was empty.

And then the chairs got up and danced after a Wade basket. :o

Easier said than done.

Obviously this is more evidence of an NBA conspiracy against the Pacers... Negate our homecourt advantage!

I noticed that too. Usually, for a 7pm game, the national anthem is at 7, followed by player intros and then 2:00 to 3:00 of music before tip. Last game, the anthem was at 6:50 and everything was sped up.

You are very observent UB

Hey now, accountants/consultants like me need SOME perks! :)

Eh, I've got to drive 3.5 hours to get the arena now.

So I still think we need some perks. ;)

And speaking of driving 3.5 hours to get home after the game Sunday... has anybody heard the time for Game #4? Pacers.com still says TBD but I don't believe that. I think they just forgot to update it.

Haha.

My wife noticed that too and mentioned it to me.

That place was empty at the start of game 2.
