Go Pacers, I can't wait. I hope Reggie is on fire again and JO dominates the paint.
Maybe we'll even get a surprise from Tinsley (doubtful).

This is the pivotal game. Win this and we win the series - 95% chance imho.

Yes. I am just really mad about how we are laying down. LaFrentz is getting open 3's and has hit one already. He will hit more if left wide open.

We aren't hitting shots and we are going in long droughts just like in Game 1.

Pacers are fine. They're not going to shoot 23 % for the game, and the Celtics aren't going to shoot 60 %.

brich
04-30-2005, 08:42 PM
I think the big difference so far is that we are just missing shots. The fact that we aren't getting fouls called for us isn't helping, but they seem to be calling it pretty loose on both ends. I am shocked by this based on tempers flaring the other night, but you just have to adapt to how they are calling it.

We are missing a ton of shots that we should be making. Jermaine is missing shots that he should be able to make in his sleep, and Jackson (perhaps because he is gimpy), is having trouble finishing.

If we are going to shoot this bad, and if we have a height advanatge, then we need to rebound the friggin' basketball. We are one and done on offense right now, and when your shooting in the 25% range, then you need every rebound that you can get.

The amazing thing about the foul disparity is that the Pacers are actually driving some and taking it aggressive to the hole. The aren't just hoisting up jumpers and whining about no-calls, they are taking it strong underneath and not getting them.

I take back what I said earlier about the officiating being balanced - I was giving the referee's the benefit of the doubt - Pierce is getting a ton of fouls underneath that we aren't.

Two calls have summed thai game up so far: The no call aagainst Pierce that Reggie should have drwn after Pierce drew a charge on an undercut and J.O. getting called for his second foul when the guy grabbed his arm. Why the heck is Pierce getting protected?

For ALL the offense you guys took to BOSTON's *****ing about the calls in game 3....seriously.

I didn't take any offense to Boston griping about the calls. What I did take offense to is counting 5 flagrant fouls that weren't even called personal fouls, and 3 other personals that were called and should have been flagrant. Sometimes I swear you only hear what you want to.

SycamoreKen
04-30-2005, 09:27 PM
Well, if you can't complain abaout a foul called against your best player for having a guy hanging on his arm then what can you comment on. Oh yea, I forgot that Pierce has "earned the respect of the refs" unlike the other guys.

obnoxiousmodesty
04-30-2005, 09:29 PM
The Pacers' overall defense has been lethargic; players are continually out of position. Paul Pierce and Ricky Davis have been shooting the lights out, but that's no excuse for the defensive miscues. Giving up 56 points in a half? Come on already. Meanwhile, the offense has been absolutely awful. Of course, that's to be expected when your best low-post player picks up his third foul with over 9 minutes left in the half. You cannot count on Reggie to carry the team all the freaking time. JO and Jackson must step it up in the second half.

I'm severely pissed off. The Pacers should count themselves blessed to be only down 9 at the half.

Oh, and Eddie Gill has officially proven himself useless in this series. I mean, he comes in and immediately holds the ball for a shot clock violation?! Lovely.

For ALL the offense you guys took to BOSTON's *****ing about the calls in game 3....seriously.

Well, you definitely have a point, and ultimately it is uproductive to talk about officiating. I hate when people constantly whine about calls and make a huge deal about it every game.

I also realize that generally the team getting the calls is the more aggressive team. Driving to the hole will always get you more calls than settling for jump shots.

I will also freely admit that I am biased as hell.

In spite of all of the aforementioned disclaimers, I think the officiating was really bad, and I honestly think it affected our offensive rhythm. I do think that we were aggressive on offense, I do think we were taking it to the hole, etc.

Pierce is going to get his calls because he is a star, and because he drives to the basket. But you can't have no-calls when Jax is getting hammered on the other end.

What is crazy, is that we are at home. If were in Boston, I still wouldn't like it, but I would understand it some.

The officiating isn't the main reason we are in a hole right now, the main reason is that we just couldn't put the ball in the basket the first quarter.

If the Pacers play to their strengths, then the officiating won't matter.

SycamoreKen
04-30-2005, 09:36 PM
I agree Tim. Bad calls aside, we missed too many easy shots. The defense did better in the second quarter, but we need to get the ball out of Pierces hands istead of letting him drive. Most importantly, JO needs to stay out of foul trouble.

We're shooting 25% against a team that doesn't play defense. :suicide:

What sucks the most....is Doc now knows how to beat us. Not because he's a good coach, but because Toine got suspended and he was forced to go small and quick.

He's such a dumb ****, that he lucks into how to beat us. Unless something dramatically changes in game 5.....we are toast.

Boston 110, Indiana 79

By MICHAEL MAROT, AP Sports Writer
April 30, 2005

AP - Apr 30, 9:26 pm EDT

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- The Boston Celtics saw the white towels waving in the crowd.

But facing the possibility of a two-game deficit in their best-of-seven series with Indiana and playing on the road without suspended forward Antoine Walker, Boston didn't surrender.

Paul Pierce had 30 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, and the Celtics came out running, shooting, defending and found the perfect combination to even the series with a 110-79 rout of Indiana in Game 4 on Saturday night.

Ricky Davis added 15 points and all five Boston starters scored in double figures.

The series, tied at two games apiece, now shifts back to Boston for Game 5 on Tuesday night.

The Pacers were led by Stephen Jackson's 24 points. Reggie Miller added 12 points as the Pacers endured their worst playoff loss. The 31-point setback surpassed the Pacers' 24-point shellacking by Orlando on June 4, 1995, in the seventh game of the Eastern Conference finals.

Without Walker, who drew a one-game suspension for pushing an official Thursday night, Boston relied on a more typical game.

Instead of the litany of hard fouls and wrestling matches inside, the NBA's third-best shooting team used a smaller, quicker, better shooting team to prevent the Pacers from getting into a rhythm.

After two subpar shooting performances, Boston shot 51.3 percent from the field in the decisive first half when Pierce scored 23. The Celtics were even better in the second half, finishing with 56.8 percent shooting.

Indiana's biggest problem wasn't only Jermaine O'Neal's sore right shoulder. It was foul trouble, poor shot selection and an offense that never set the tempo. The result: Indiana shot just 22.7 percent in the first quarter, 31 percent in the half and a playoff record low 26.9 percent for the game. The Pacers' previous low was 27.5 percent, against Detroit on May 24, 2004.

Only four Pacers scored in the first quarter and only two -- O'Neal and Jackson -- hit more than one basket. Each had two.

That was the opening Boston needed to climb back into the series.

Leading 17-13 midway through the first quarter, the Celtics didn't allow an Indiana basket over the final 6:08 of the quarter and jumped to a 31-20 lead.

And every time it looked as though Indiana might rally, Boston had an answer.

Reggie Miller's second 3-pointer, early in the second quarter, made it 35-32.

Then Pierce took over. He scored 15 points in the second quarter, thwarting almost every Pacers run single-handedly. Boston led by as much as 52-38 before a last-minute scoring flurry and Miller's buzzer-beating 3-pointer got Indiana within 56-47 at halftime.

In the second half, the Pacers made one charge with some help from an unlikely source -- backup James Jones. Jones hit a 3-pointer, then took a charge, hit another 3 and made one of two free throws to get the Pacers within 58-56 with 7:49 left.

This time, the Celtics re-established control with a 9-0 run and extended the lead to 78-60 with 1:16 left in the third quarter.

The Pacers never challenged again, benching their starters for the final 6 minutes, as they lost for the sixth time at home in 22 games.

Notes

Boston outscored Indiana in the paint 48-22. ... The Celtics shot 7-for-13 from 3-point range after going just 6-of-25 in their previous two games combined. ... Delonte West started in place of Walker and scored 14 points, most in the fourth quarter, but spent most of the game in foul trouble. ... The teams combined to shoot 62 free throws as the officials called 55 fouls.
