I'm laughing my F-ing *** off at Stephen Jackson acting like he would be the boy to wax his new Bentley with that blue towel and *****, that was hilarious.

But yeah, the peanut butter reference for Kegboy was funny, and the Bentley was top notch.

Does anyone remeber any other Hall of Fame NBA players in history getting a sendoff like this? I don't remember Malone, Stockton, Olajuwon, hell didn't Kareem get a rocking chair?

The Simons, Donny Walsh, and everyone else did a magnificent job with giving Reggie a sendoff like this, and he deserved it.

Dish Network can DIE. They cut away at 10:30 to their logo w/ cheesy elevator music. Right in the middle of Reggie's speech. Fortunately, my mom was sharp enough to have been taping this all on VCR tape in another room, so later I can convert that and copy it all together, but the quality of the end won't be as good. I'm hoping like crazy, Ragnar, that you got all of it, so I can splice the end of yours with what I got for my personal copy later.

They did it right! As a Pacer fan for 37 years, some of the most revered Pacer players didn't have this because they played the latter parts of their careers elsewhere, injuries cut careers short or other reasons. This is really the only time I can remember a celebration of this sort.

Yes, it's going to be very odd not to see #31 on the court.

And I agree UB - the "tribute" with Antonio and Dale was very touching.

Reggie Miller and the Pacers brass are genuine people. Great sendoff, one of a kind and unprecedented in pro sports. John Stockton, heck Bird did not get a sendoff on their last regular season night though Stockton did not announce his retirement till after the playoffs.

Mark Jackson's speech was good. Bringing the Davis boys together gave me goosebumps and a tear because it reminded of our mid 90s pacers which was my favourite Pacers team.

Bird was just himself, very candid and forthright. Kudos to the Simons thought of giving Reggie a Bentley.

PS - John Stocton is a class act also with the way he left the game. After a loss in the playoffs, the next day after cleaning his locker he just announced it to the local media and that was it. It takes a lot,a real lot, to just walk away without drawing any attention.

Just got back to Chicago- that was a great ceremony and I'll certainly admit that the tears were welling up when Reggie spoke; when he thanked Chuck and Vern ("the original 'Mr. Pacer'"); and when he pulled his "original bodyguards" out of the shadows and onto the court.

From "204", the Bentley was hard to see, but Cheryl's reaction was priceless.

Oh, and Bob and Tom had a Mark/Slick parody bit this morning that had me laughing out loud as I left town.

ChicagoJ
04-21-2005, 01:47 PM
204 was the complete opposite side of the stadium from my 223. Maybe I'll wander over there next time.

I quickly figured out there was so much "don't want to miss" stuff going on that there would be no forum mini-gathering.

Anybody have a favorite "in-game" tribute from the video screens? Frankly, Mel's tribute on behalf of all the ABA players had me a little choked up, so I knew it was going to be an emotional evening. I laughed my @$$ off at Shaq, ("Reggie F. Miller") and a large number of us in "204" booed that Jordan character so I have no idea what he said and I'm not asking anybody to repeat it.

ChicagoJ

Though I couldn't attend a single Pacers game personally, or see the games live on TV (I'm Hungarian, I watch the games via Internet) I'm a Pacer fan for life. Reggie made me love the NBA, the team, everything. I cannot even imagine not seeing him out there during a game. I only got to watch the video that was posted on the indystar page yet, but I have to admit, when Reggie lost it, i started crying like a 2 year old girl.. (I'm at work right now, it's 11pm) I'm still choked up, it's hard to breathe.. I just got back to Bloomington from the game, and need to go to bed, but have to post this somewhere:

18 years ago, you began your quest to discover what a Pacer was. Today, you walk away having defined forevermore what it means to truly be an Indiana Pacer.

Though an NBA title has always eluded you (so far); for everything that you are, for everything that you were, and for everything that you will be.....you will always be the greatest champion I've ever had the privilege of seeing.

Thank you, Reggie Wayne Miller for 18 years of Miller Time and a lifetime of memories.

Though in time you will begin to forget the game, we should all be eternally grateful the game will never be able to forget you.

Boy, that was right on Jay. Mel seemed very emotional and I loved seeing that from one of the toughest SOB's who ever played here.

Mel had the unique honor of giving two tributes, one - on behalf of the ABA Pacers - on the video screen early in the game and one - as one of the scouts that recommended drafting Reggie - during the post-game ceremony.

Remember the "25th Anniversary" season - which was (I think) 1991-92. That was really the first time that the NBA Pacers began honoring thier ABA history. And as you'll recall, Chuck and Reggie were really driving that because of thier admiration for Mel Daniels and to a lesser extent Slick Leonard for the way they took each of them under thier wings as rookies. Yet when Chuck and Reggie arrived in Indy, they had no clue who Mel, in particular, was.

Anyway, I was particuarly touched by the way those relationships have come full circle.

Scott Skiles on Reggie:

"I wouldn't put me in the same league as Reggie. He has about 20,000 more points than me."

"It was very clear right from the beginning he was not going to leave anything on the table. He was going to work. His will was so strong that it wasn't going to be long before he was a major factor in the league. And every day, you better have it laced up against him because he was going to compete."

Well, that was special.

This was my first time in Indiana and I only really had time to go to the game with my wife as well as visit the war memorial (which was very nice).

When Cheryl came up to Reg and hugged him I just started bawling. I've feel very lucky and priveliged having attended this. This definately ranks up there in personal basketball terms with things like being at Ewings retirement ceremony in the garden.

What I was curious about was why Spike didn't leave him a message.

Sweet car Reg got. When me and the wife left Ron drove by us. Some guy ran up to his car at a stoplight yelling for his autograph but he drove away which I totally understand.

Conseco Fieldhouse is a very nice place.

These have been some rambling thoughts of a very moved Pacers fan.
