I had a teacher in high school that pronounced "Indianapolis" without either "a". It was mind numbing and ridiculous.

There is an older guy at work who, when he goes to a game, will sit in "roll" 17. And his poor meatball will "row" across the floor. I'm not kidding, that bugs me. And it's pronounced "wolves", not "woofs"!

I noticed this when I first went back to Indiana from my first extended stay elsewhere. Wrote a little rhyme about it. Goes like 'iss.

They'll tell you now 'n in.
You hear it here 'n air.
The 'th' with which the words begin,
for Hoosiers isn't air.

I should say I'm from west central Indiana, where you 'modoc' when you drive fast. Seems possible 'ats a Illiana thing.

I do hear 'coats' down here in the south a lot. 'Least it sounds that way to my ear.

I swear I think that Phil Simms says "Cotes" about 1/2 the time. Sometimes he pronounces the "L". Other times, not so much.

It is really hard to pronouce a long "O" with the -lts. But he does try really hard to do it.
